JennifHsieh is a space for my rambling thoughts and snaps of my everyday style. I'm based in Astoria, Queens and I share a home with my two derpy cats and my equally derpy fiancé.

Grandpa Jen

I bought this trench a month or two ago with my mom and I fell head over heels in love with it. At first I didn't think I'd be able to fit it in with my normal style, but the more I wear it the more I can't take it off. It was warm out this morning and I still wore it! (By the way, the weather is gorgeous outside. Tomorrow it's going to be 88 degrees! Hopefully I'll be able to sneak in a trip to the beach before I officially start studying for my upcoming finals.)

Yes. That's right. I'm wearing suspenders.

(trench DKNY, white l/s forever 21, suspenders my brother, jeans forever 21, flats uo, necklace simply vera vera wang)

I stole these suspenders from my brother when I was home a week ago. He never wears them so why not put them to use? They hold up my pants quite nicely.

It's Rutgersfest today! It's pretty much a day where there are games, free food, and great music (Brand New is one of the bands playing - but then again I never really listened to them).  Actually...Rutgersfest is pretty much just a day where everyone gets trashed during the day into the night. I'm still sober now, don't worry, but it'll change in a bit. It's my friend's 21st today so we're going to celebrate! :)

p.s. I'm glad I'm updating a lot more compared to the beginning of this month. Hopefully I'll keep this up since the summertime is approaching. :)

Obsessed

Hautelook is having an American Apparel Sale going on RIGHT NOW! I'm breaking my shopping ban. I know it's horrible, but I am. Prices are below $20 for a ton of their items. I'll probably be picking up a dress or two. :)

Stumbling

When I saw these shoes online from Forever 21, they only offered sizes 7 and/or 8. I'm a 7 1/2. What's a girl to do? I bought those motherfuckers (excuse my language). Unfortunately, I went for the 7 instead of the 8, so they squeeze my toes a bit. Adding on to the squeezing, I'm horrible when it comes to walking in heels. I pretty stumbled all the way to Rite Aid (my destination) and all the way back to my dorm. Nevertheless, I loved wearing them as they made me feel taller.

So as you've probably noticed, I made a whole lot of changes to my blog. I stayed up until sunrise in order to get it all done since I knew that if I didn't finish it all in one sitting, I'd never finish (why can't I do that with my homework?) I'm pretty satisfied with it as of now...but PLEASE let me know any comments and/or suggestions you guys have. Also, there's now a link to my formspring in the right column just so all the general questions get piled up there. :)

Secret Hiding Spot

Whenever my photographer is busy (or sleeps in too late), I always resort to taking self-portraits. I'm really insecure when it comes to taking pictures and I get embarrassed easily. People walking by probably think I'm full of it! If only I could explain to them why I'm taking multiple shots of myself. But anyway, whenever I have to take self-portraits, I always take them in the same spot: a little alcove dug into the ground which leads to a basement door. That way I can hide from the world. So if you ever see pictures in this spot (like in this post), you know they're self-portraits.  I promise next time it'll be in a more interesting location. :)

(l/s v-neck forever 21, skirt random boutique in NYC, belt h&m, tights asos [remixed], shoes Reaction by Kenneth Cole)

I'm actually wearing this skirt backwards (shh). You can't tell since the zipper is in the back (I'm not fond of it in the front) and I thought I was so sneaky and clever until I realized this skirt had huge pockets in the original front. You can tell in a few of these pictures. Oh well, I can start a trend. :)

Also, I'm in love with these shoes. I put them on and stomp around the dorm, even when I'm studying. It's the first time I splurged on a pair of shoes. They were a total of $70 (originally $80). Alright, alright, I know. Normally splurging on shoes would consist of an amount in the hundreds or thousands but I'm a broke college student and shoes generally aren't my thing.

Yesterday was the March of Dimes walk (thank you to my two sponsors - especially Taylor for all the shout outs! I have no idea who the second one was because I accidentally deleted the email before looking at it, so let me know if it was you!) It was on the boardwalk so it was absolutely gorgeous, however it was chilly and rainy and I was inadequately dressed. Whoops!

p.s. check out my formspring :)

Dynamic Duo: Part II

So Jasmine from Transient Withdrawal and I finally got around to doing part two of our Dynamic Duo adventures! (They aren't really adventures but I shall pretend they are anyway.) We never collaborate on our pictures and we don't see the other person's outfit until we've both styled the Dynamic Duo item...but for some reason we always end up having something similar. This time, even our poses are similar! It's a little crazy. Can you say sister from another mister? :)

This necklace definitely was a hard one to style. I decided to go with the red and blue theme and threw on my nautical dress. It's super comfortable and extremely reliable. I love how Jasmine added a ribbon to the necklace to make it longer. She had the idea of turning it into a brooch and I'm loving the idea. Hopefully she'll go through with it and take pictures (wink wink nudge nudge).

Just a quick shout out to Kembrel, who's having their first private sale right now!
Kembrel is a private shopping community that offers exclusive sales from favorite brands, designers, and even undiscovered student designers (my favorite part). I just found out about them a few days ago and what I love about them is the fact that they're for students and run by students! :)
You'll need an .edu email to join, so if you do, definitely check it out! It'll be worth your visit.

I have a Board Development Weekend about an hour away this weekend. I'll probably have to bring my homework to the meetings and workshops just to get it all done. I can't wait though, some of my favorite people are there! I can't wait to take lots of pictures. Also, it's down south a bit and near the beach...maybe I'll see if anyone is up for waking up early to see the sun rise (maybe I'm just crazy). I have to go home tomorrow morning to pick up my car, deposit a check, and pick up my contacts. Hopefully I'll have a little bit of down time during the weekend to blog a bit. Until my next entry! :)

Concrete Jungle

Every time I go to the city now I always hear Jay-Z and Alicia Keys singing Empire State of Mind, even though I've been there multiple times before.

I took a trip to the city about a week ago with one of my best friends, Jess, since she had to check out some Greek art at the MET. It was a chilly day out but the sun was shining down so it was a perfect day to run around Central Park taking pictures of anything and anyone. The sun shone a little too bright sometimes though and made picture taking a little difficult. Either my face was drowning in light or shrouded in shadows.

Besides the fantastic weather, there were also numerous amounts of sketchy men. Warning: do NOT wear tights with shorts to the city, you WILL get cat calls from men as you cross the street. The best story of the day though was when a young man driving a Bicycle Rickshaw came up to me and offered me a free ride. I declined and walked away (Jess practically ran away). However...he was quite the persistent guy and proceeded to ride his bike in front of us. He asked if he could talk to me for a second and asked me if I was Japanese or Korean (both of which I'm neither). Despite the creepiness he was quite the sweetheart and he told me I was beautiful. He then asked me for my number and I lied and told him I was taken. Despite my "unavailability", he still wanted me to take his number just in case I changed my mind. In the end I declined and left without him by my side. I'm pretty sure I just let the love of my life walk (or bike) right out of my life. I should have at least taken the free ride offer.

(cardigan h&m [remixed], blouse urban outfitters, tank delia's, belt h&m, shorts pacsun, tights asos, flats urban outfitters)

I can't wait to take more trips into the city once summer comes around and school lets out. If only it wasn't so expensive to take the train into the city. A $20 round trip isn't very attractive. Whatever happened to Free Transit Week? :(

I haven't had time this past weekend to make those changes to my blog. They might be postponed a week or so. Oh, if only school could be put on hold so I could do the things I love. Well, back to homework (what else is new?).

Oh, and a big thanks to The Owl's Closet for the Hottest Female Blogger Award! <3

p.s. This Saturday I'm participating in a March for Babies (for March of Dimes) and I'm trying to reach a fundraising goal of $100. If you're feeling generous feel free to donate in the sidebar! Every penny (or dime) counts! And on the topic of that, for the next three months, I'm stepping in as the Circle K International March of Dimes Ambassador! I'm way too excited and now I'm definitely going to have to work even harder on managing my time.

Picking Locks

The weather outside is lovely again, which is weird since it was a little bit chilly this morning. I keep on putting my sweater on then taking it back off. I bet it'll be chilly again once the sun sets. (Why do I always talk about the weather? I'm turning into a weatherman.)

Anyway, I'm really wishing I had more time these days. Granted I'm quite the procrastinator and I have the inability to say no to my friends, but even so I'm running out of time to do all the things I need to do. I won't bore you with my gigantic to-do list, but I think I'm going to take a break for the next hour before I leave for class and catch up with you guys. Classes really are the bane of my existence.

So on a whole other topic, as many of you guys know, I go to Rutgers University...and guess what? We're one of the top two schools in the running for a Victoria's Secret Pink party! Okay, okay, so I don't really shop there (except for when I get those coupons for a free pair of underwear. I mean really, why wouldn't you go pick one up?) but a huge party hosted by Victoria's Secret sounds pretty damn awesome. We're up against West Virginia University and they're getting ahead! So if you're bored and finding yourself sitting in front of your computer with nothing to do...go sign up and VOTE for Rutgers! (Unless you're a fan of West Virginia...which in that case just forget about this part of my post.) :) I've been clicking my mouse on that VOTE button like crazy all day. I'll probably end up with carpel tunnel syndrome by the end of this competition.

(t-shirt forever 21, belt h&m, skirt wet seal, shoes unionbay (kohl's), rings forever 21)

I'm going home tomorrow morning to get my bangs trimmed by my hairdresser. They're starting to obstruct my vision again and it's not helping with my eye allergies. I'm also going to get new frames for my lenses since my current ones are falling apart. I have kind of a wide face shape and because I'm Asian and don't have much of a bridge on my nose, I can't wear those thick plastic frames unless they have that padding that makes them stay on your nose. Any suggestions for frame styles?

Now that I think about it, you guys have never seen me with my glasses. I'm always wearing my contacts (yes, my vision is quite horrible) but maybe one day I'll opt for my glasses. That'll be one craaaazy outfit post. :P

Another question: When I revamp my site this weekend, I'm thinking of changing around my banner a little to a different font and a different pattern/color. What do you guys think? Any suggestions or comments? I'm also so indecisive so anything is appreciated. :)

Ah! One final piece of exciting news: my IFB Blogger Spotlight interview is up! Go check it out! I'm so lame. This is seriously beyond exciting in my world. :P

Everytime I See Your Bubbly Face

These shots were taken when the weather was still warm. One week it's in the 80's and now it's in the 60s. I guess summer decided to stop by for a bit then left. Why is the weather so bipolar??? It's throwing me off. I have to leave my summer dresses behind and start layering again. It's not too bad though since I kind of enjoy layering. I have to admit, the summer weather made me miss the chillier weather a little. I'm jealous of all you guys who are just entering fall. It's definitely my favorite season. :)

Oh, and to be completely honest with you guys...I stole these bubbles. I'm pretty sure they were unwanted from a care package and recklessly abandoned in the lounge on my floor. Therefore, I adopted them as my own.

( floral dress taiwan, belt italy, sandals kohl's

So I'm going to be making some changes to my blog (if I ever find enough time to work on this thing - I know my amount of updating is pretty pathetic right now). I definitely can't wait for it to all be finished...hopefully by this weekend. I also have a ton of outfits I never got around to posting...so BE EXCITED! :)

and now I'm off to grab some lunch with some of my favorites, do some Accounting homework (early for once!), and eat some Peeps from easter. nom nom nom stale peeps.

Of Aviators and Antlers

Of Aviators and Antlers

Ever since I entered college over a year ago I started to develop eye allergies. I used to be one of those allergy-free people who walk outside without any worries. Now I'm one of those people you see with red eyes who's scratching them furiously. I know, I know...I shouldn't itch my eyes but the temporary relief is just that good. I'm blinking extra hard right now to replace my scratching but it's not the same. Oh, pollen, what have I ever done to you?

While I was taking these pictures my photographer and I found these aviators on the ground. (I'm dirty, I know). One of the lens was popped out but instead of putting it back in I decided to wear them as is; they make me feel like a modern day pirate.

Then I found some branches and decided to wear them as antlers. I felt like an asian lady gaga. Now that I think about it...this was a pretty strange photo shoot. I'm pretty sure the weird pictures outweighed the normal ones. :P

(lace bodysuit uo, dress uo, suede flats uo, ring forever 21, pseudo antlers mother nature, pirate aviators abandonment)

Oh, oh, oh! And before I forget...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to Diane, Jenny, Rosie and Nookie! You guys are the sweetest girls around for nominating me for IFB's Blogger Spotlight! And Jenny, I had no idea teddy bears ate toast. :P This is beyond amazing and I seriously have the best readers out there. No doubt about it.
