JennifHsieh is a space for my rambling thoughts and snaps of my everyday style. I'm based in Astoria, Queens and I share a home with my two derpy cats and my equally derpy fiancé.

The Right Words Were Always Hard to Find

Let me just tell you guys, these self portraits were beyond hard to take. First, I realized that one of the legs of my tripod was broken so I had to balance the broken leg on the side of a tree. Then, I realized I forgot the thing that connects my camera to the tripod, so I had to carefully balance it on the tripod, using the same tree for support. Then I had to use the tall grass as a focusing point to manually focus the camera, which made it difficult to decide how far away to stand since all the grass looks the same everywhere. And then don't even get me started on the heat. But with some editing magic I managed to salvage a few. :)

(shirt dress h&m [remixed], skirt forever 21, bangle forever 21, shoes kenneth cole reaction)

I think the heat started getting to me in some of these pictures. There weren't many normal ones. And I'm also super Asian in these pictures considering you can't see my eyes in the majority of the photos.

So I just got a job at a new store opening up at my mall: Love Culture. My interview was literally only about 4 minutes. It opens up in a week or two and I have orientation today! I'm pretty excited, especially since I'm low on cash and it pays a little more than my last job.

I'm craving a road trip this summer but I have no idea where to go. My dad said if it's over 6 hours there's no way in hell I'm driving (apparently that's what planes are for). Any suggestions? :)

Don't forget to enter the F21 Shorts Giveaway by midnight tonight (est) and Sway with me. ;)
Also, is there anything you guys would like to see on this blog? Any suggestions are welcome.

  1. Jen, these self-portraits are wonderful. You did well and you don't look like you had a difficult time setting up the gadgets. Your face didn't show any signs of being harassed... a true measure of a real pro. Have a great weekend sweetie! xoxo

  3. Road trip to Iowa! Just kidding... sort of. You're so funny--my friends and I always notice when we look extra asian in photos... I don't know how to explain it though. Self portraits are hard! But so is nagging my boyfriend to take my photos and being insanely anal about every single photo! You look really cute and you don't look phased by the heat at all!

  10. I love the first picture! I think they turned out quite well! I love your blue button-down! Yay congrats on the new job, I know you'll be fantastic at it! Hmm maybe you can drive down to Florida for the opening of the Harry Potter theme park (if you like Harry Potter)? I don't know whether that's more than 6 hours though. OR you could drive to DC! I'm such a nerd, but I LOVE DC and all those silly monuments and museums. God I want to go again.

  17. O hai, you're so cute when you prance. :) Your bracelet is so pretty, I like how you built around it.

Only 6 hours of a road trip? Awww. Maybe you could go to New York, haha, I don't know actually. We had to drive all the way up to Montana a few summers in a row, which was 60 hours total there and back. It was fun, haha.

  18. You could try to be more adorable but you would fail. I love this outfit! It's super cute :) Gosh I dunno where you should go on a road trip, you should give us like 5 options and we can all vote on it haha!
