Cabin in the Woods

Madewell Camouflage T-Shirt (similar), Beige Full Skirt c/o LuLu*s (similar), Aldo Canvas Backpack (similar), Two-Toned Heeled Sandals c/o LuLu*s (similar)

It's been a long, long week and it took a long, long drive, but I'm finally all the way up in Vermont for Labor Day Weekend and I couldn't be more excited to just relax and destress. A few friends and I rented out an awesome house deep in the woods that usually acts as a little ski lodge in the wintertime. The entire drive up was pretty creepy, especially once we got into Vermont and the fog rolled in, so we kept assuming we were going to have a Cabin in the Woods experience...but so far, so good.

What are you guys up to for the long weekend?

Last Night Escapades and Making a Ruckus

Gap Striped T-Shirt (similar), Urban Outfitters High-Waisted Button Shorts (similar), Tan Sandals c/o LuLu*s

A comfortable shirt tucked into high-waisted shorts has really become my summer uniform when I'm not at work or when I'm just having a lazy day exploring my new neighborhood. There's really nothing better. Livin' the life right here in these pictures, dude.

I stayed put in Astoria this past weekend for the first time in a long time since moving here. One of our college friends stopped by super late Saturday night (actually, by that time it was technically already Sunday morning) and we hit the town (I sound so old saying that). Astoria actually has a killer night life and we were out into the wee hours of the morning (getting even older with these lame sayings), ending the night with some quarter rides and by making a ruckus at the local 24/7 diner. I might not be able to show my face there ever again, which is a pity because their food is incredible. I mean, where else can you get gouda-stuffed burgers and ranch fried chicken quesadillas at 4 AM? I guess I'll just have to accumulate a stockpile of disguises.

Jen in Transit

Crop Top c/o Chicnova (similar), Black Maxi Dress c/o For Elyse, Tan Sandals c/o LuLu*s, Tan Reversible Bag c/o LuLu*s

For those of you that follow me on Instagram, you'll know that this outfit was from about a week ago and my lazy self is just getting to posting these. You'll also know that it's part of my #JenInTransit series. What is this series? Absolutely nothing to be honest. There's no purpose behind it and it just grew out of my need to pose with all the numerous awesome scooters parked around Astoria. Now everyone thinks I'm a scooter and bike hoarder. Not the worst thing for people to think, to be honest. I'll take it.

This weekend has been so relaxing so far and I've been really needing a weekend like this for such a long time. It's been so hectic with the new apartment the past three weeks and now it's really starting to feel like home. I can't wait to put up some last finishing touches around the apartment and show you guys what it looks like so far. Home sweet home.

Collisions with Cha Cha Dancers

Sleeveless Top c/o Paul Frank (similar), Express Destroyed Shorts (similar), Wet Seal Pink Plaid Shirt (similar), Tan Sandals c/o LuLu*s, Thin Rings c/o LuLu*s (similar)

I lost my memory card reader in my office last week and I've only finally gotten a new one. Oh, you sweet beautiful thing, you.

This past weekend I ran down to Seaside Heights, NJ for a quick (and too short) weekend getaway with my best friends from high school. It was a pretty rough night in the best way possible and, to sum it up, I woke up with a skinned knee due to a late night collision with a cha cha dancer in a dance circle. No regrets (although my knee would disagree, mainly during my climb up the stairs to my fifth floor walk-up apartment). But still, a much needed getaway to break up the usual work week.

Mermaids Live in Queens

Madewell White T-Shirt (similar), Mint Maxi Skirt c/o For Elyse, Report Sandals c/o LuLu*s, Aldo Backpack (similar)

There's just something about a good ol' maxi skirt that gets me in good spirits (I sound like an old fart). There's also something about your co-worker telling you that you look like a mermaid that gets you in even better spirits. Now all I need is a seashell bra and I'm pretty much good to go.

Since there aren't many summer weekends left - sob - I'm heading down to the Jersey shore with a few high school friends to squeeze in another beach weekend before it's time for cardigans and sweaters again. Although, don't get me wrong, I love me some fall. Plenty of sunshine and reckless beach nights are the best cure to a long, long week.

What are you guys up to this weekend?

The Perfect Boyfriend Jeans

Urban Outfitters Black Burnout Tank (similar), Levi's 501 Boyfriend Jeans, Sandals c/o LuLu*s

I got the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans this past weekend and, you guys, I've been looking for a pair for forever. These are really, really it. Well, at least that I know of. I'm not gonna lie, I've already worn them 3-4 times this week (mainly right when I got back home from work), and it's been awesome.

My old apartment had a mighty fine balcony and I thought I wouldn't miss it much since I'd have a fire escape in my new one. Jeremy and I planned on celebrating our four-year anniversary earlier this week by eating take-out on the fire escape and then I realized that they aren't quite as comforting as balconies. Not at all. My fear of heights kicked in as I looked down and saw through all those shaky-looking metal bars and decided we'd just eat on the couch while watching The Princess Bride. No regrets.

Summer Weekends in Astoria

Marigold Crop Top c/o Pink Basis, Modcloth Watercolor Skirt (similar), Madewell Wooden Sandals (similar), Aldo Backpack (similar)

Lately I've been so busy both at work and with managing to get settled into the new apartment. It's only been a little over a week but it feels like Jeremy and I have been living here for way longer. To be honest, it's taking me longer than I thought to really feel comfortable and settled in, both with living in the new space and with living with Jeremy. I find myself focusing on the bigger picture and the long-term direction that this is taking me toward rather than enjoying what's real and right in front of us. But overtime, I think I'm really falling in love with being here, and falling in love with Jeremy in a new way.

The Move to Astoria

Gap Striped Shirt (similar), Beige Skirt c/o LuLu*s (similar), Tan Flats c/o Blowfish Shoes (similar)

This past weekend was physically and mentally exhausting but, you guys, it was so worth it. Jeremy told me that moving was on the top of his "worst things in the world" list and I'm inclined to agree with him to some extent since my entire body still aches.

After almost four long days of packing and unpacking, climbing up and down five stories of stairs, assembling never-ending IKEA furniture, and shopping for necessities, we're finally starting to feel like we're settling in. The final piece of the puzzle is definitely the sofa that we ordered and now were just playing the waiting game. Can't wait to share pictures with you guys once we figure out what to do with the rest of my clothes. I've already donated or sold four bags of clothes and shoes and it doesn't seem to be enough with our tiny closet. Time to let go of all the memories that hold me back from parting with even the least worn items.
