Small Town Diners + Drop Waist Dresses

Tonight is one of those late night at work where you suddenly realize you've been sitting within your office walls for over twelve hours. Fresh air? I could use some right about now, but here I am blogging so that when I get home it can be 100% about dinner and an episode of The Office. I'm seriously addicted to that show and I know I keep talking about it blog post after blog post. You can't stop me.

I took these pictures on Sunday down in Jersey where Jeremy is currently living. He lives in the cutest little town and one of my favorites things about it is the local diner. Everything else in their downtown area went through renovations and the stores are pretty bougie and high-class, but this little diner sticks out like a beautiful "sore thumb" and it always makes me smile when I pass by it. Makes me focus on my dreams to have a small place like that in the not so distant future. Time to start planning.

This Monday hit me like a truck. Right in the gut. Can we rewind a little and go back to the weekend?

One of my best friends all the way back from middle school is heading overseas to Paraguay to join the Peace Corps in a month so we caught up this past Saturday over some Korean fried chicken and one too many drinks for a casual afternoon. I'm really going to miss him but we have a way of growing up without growing apart so I'm not too worried there.

What were you guys up to this weekend?

Boston: The Walking City

Forever 21 Elbow Pad Sweater (similar) | Urban Outfitters Mustard Skirt (similar) | Fleece-lined Tights c/o Silkies | Studded Boots c/o YesWalker (similar)

I could not have asked for a more relaxing weekend up in Boston, you guys. The friend we were visiting lives in Jamaica Plains, which is more on the outskirts of Boston, and it has the coolest community full of small businesses. Saturday was Buy a Record Day so we stopped by Tres Gatos, a tapas bar that also sells records, cd's, and books. Then we hopped on over to Streetcar which has a sick selection of wines and beers.

The weather was absolutely perfect the whole time and we spent Saturday just lounging around on the porch with our armfuls of beer, listening to vinyl. I know, I sound obnoxiously hip, but you guys...that's what serenity feels like. Especially when it's a cloudy day and you alternate between the cool, calming breeze and the lightly burning sun.

The second day was a bit more active as we explored the majority of downtown Boston. It always surprises me when I travel to a city that's a lot more walkable than New York City. Within an hour or two we explored a good number of neighborhoods, which would have taken all day back home. It's not a bad or a good thing...just different. And different is nice from time to time.

P.S. Can you talk about a throwback to fall with this color palette? Amirite?

Camouflage in Boston

Cream Cardigan c/o JollyChic (similar) | Madewell Camo Tee (similar) | Forever 21 Jeans | Olive Ankle Boots c/o LuLu*s (similar)

This past weekend I took the arduous bus ride up to Boston with friends to visit a fourth friend who's going to grad school in the area. I'll talk about it more in my next post, since today was absolutely killer at work, but figured I'd give a little context to where I'm standing. The only way you can really tell that this is Boston and not New York City is definitely the lack of tall, gigantic buildings in the background.

But anyway, I'm out. Finally leaving work and retiring to a delicious deli burger and a "The Office" marathon. Sorry daily work out, you'll have to wait until tomorrow. Greasy noms take priority today.

As I Wake I'm Going Out of my Mind

Denim Vest c/o For Elyse (similar) | Graphic Crop Top c/o chicnova (similar) | Plaid Skirt c/o LuLu*s (similar) | Nude + Black Sandals c/o LuLu*s (similar) | Tortoise Glasses c/o Firmoo

I'm constantly on the hunt for the perfect glasses and it's been a constant struggle over the past few years. I don't wear them in public very often as I prefer the ease of contacts, but I relay on them when I'm home so I can give my eyes a bit of a break. To be pretty honest, I don't have a very ideal face for glasses: (1) I lack a proper bridge on my nose so glasses without padding tend to slip off my face, (2) I have big cheeks so, when I smile or laugh, they push my glasses upwards, and (3) I can never figure out whether I have a round or square face so I don't know what shape compliments me best.

I'm a pretty big fan of these glasses mainly due to the little details that you normally wouldn't notice. The ends of the glasses have triangular cut-outs and the subtle tortoise print gives it a nice, unique touch. I'm also a huge fan of the shape and the quality - now I just need to deal with the fact that they slide down my face if I'm not careful. Not a big deal if I don't mind looking like a bit of a dork.

But hey, nothing wrong with looking dorky, right?

Splatters of Neon

Forever 21 Denim Jacket (similar) | American Apparel Black Crop Top (similar) | Urban Outfitters Neon Paint Splatter Dress (similar) | Converse Blue Sneakers (similar)

Summer stopped by for a hot second this past weekend and I took full advantage of it with bare legs and bare arms. Then I got my hopes up yesterday and continued to rock those short sleeves and was bombarded by cold and rainy winds. And now I'm hearing that people woke up to snow on their cars. Sigh. But at least we had a momentary break from the lousy weather and I'm pretty thankful for that. Soon enough those temperatures in the 60's and 70's will stick around. Soon enough.

I'm heading to Boston with a few others this weekend to visit a friend who's in grad school up there. The last time I visited was for Santa Con in December (yeah, I'm one of those people but there's no shame in my game) and we didn't do much else but hang around his house and check out the bars. Hopefully this time we'll get to explore the heart of the city since we're not heading back as early. The last time I was able to really explore was when I road tripped to Boston after my freshman year of college to see The National perform. Anyone from Boston (or the surrounding area) have any suggestions?

Reppin' #TeamShift for LuLu*s

Forever 21 Denim Jacket (similar) | Geometric Shift Dress c/o LuLu*s | India Boots c/o Blowfish Shoes (similar) | Shoemint Crossbody | What Time? Watch c/o Rakani

I have a very real love for shift dresses and the ever lovely LuLu*s team has given me a chance to show it. Over the next four weeks they're hosting a Fashion Face-Off, where you have a chance to voice what spring trends have your vote with a different trend showdown each week. They kicked off today with this week's face-off between shift dresses and skater dresses. And me? I'm #TeamShift.

While I love a skater dress as much as the next girl, a shift dress will ultimately always win my heart. Why? (1) First of all, food babies. When you're stuffing yourself happy without a care in the world, you don't want to end the meal having to care about your newly developed pooch. Am I right? And (2) second of all, you can define where your waist is. Am I making any sense? Basically, when you throw on that belt, you can turn your dress into a skater dress, a drop waist dress, baby doll dress...you do you, girl.

Follow along each week for a new trend report and enter via Instagram for a chance to be featured and score a $500 gift card to LuLu*s! Click here for more details!
