I Don't Know About You But I'm Feeling 22

Time to get my 22 on.
I'm going to force the DJ at the bar to play this song all night long, mainly because it was obviously written for me. Oh, and also this.

More pictures to come when I recover.

It's officially Friday! Well, at least it is in the world of Jen. Just earlier this week, my company decided to make all birthdays official holidays. My birthday is tomorrow. Can you say perfect timing? I scheduled my back-ups, finished up any extra work I had to get done, and I'll be spending my birthday (tomorrow) sleeping in and doing absolutely nothing. I'm contemplating treating myself to one of those silly Groupon Spa/Massage deals. I've been having bad back pains ever since I started working since I sit at my desk for the majority of the day. I don't want to turn into a hunchback so a massage might be the right idea.

Also, my mom said I looked like I was going on an African safari in this outfit. Nothing wrong with a little adventure. ;)

Holiday Gifts for the Fashion Blogger in Your Life

November 28, 2012

Holiday Gifts for the Fashion Blogger in Your Life

So you're friends with (or in a relationship with) a fashion blogger and the holiday season is rolling around. They seem to have all the newest trends already in their closet and whatever you get them has to be blog-worthy. Sure, they'll post wish lists of all the goodies they want to receive (which should make it super easy), but why not surprise them with something that's not on their already over-shared list?

1. The Sartorialist: Closer - Most likely, your fashion blogger friend already has the first Sartorialist book on their shelves. Why not get them the second one? Print out a few pictures of their own outfits and glue them into the book. "Surprise! You're famous!"
2. iPhone Case - As fashion bloggers, we take a crap load of #selfies on Instagram to show the world, over and over again, what we look like. That makes our phone covers just as important since they often appear in our mirror pictures. Myspace pictures haven't died, they've just moved on to another platform: Instagram. ;)
3. Touch Gloves - When fashion bloggers aren't posing in front of the camera, they're usually on their smart phones tweeting about posing in front of the camera. With the bitter, winter weather's arrival, why not get them gloves that work with smart phone screens? Fingers stay warm and outfits get tweeted. Double win.
4. Manfrotto Tripod - This is the best way to subtly tell your fashion blogger, "No. I don't want to take your outfit pictures." Get them a gift that just keeps on giving! (But in all seriousness, Manfrotto tripods are excellent).
5. I'm Kind of a Big Deal on My Blog Print - This is the perfect final touch to their Pinterest-worthy bedrooms.
6. Street Style Memory Game - Because the existence of this game cracks me up.
7. Modcloth Gift Certificate - Can't keep up with all those trends that just keep popping up? Oxblood? Peplum? What do those words even mean? Don't worry. As long as it's from Modcloth, it's pretty much guaranteed to be blog-worthy, such as the Inlet Skirt, Mobile Satchel, or the Heart on my Sleeveless Dress.
8. Chambray Shirt - Trust me. A fashion blogger cannot survive without a chambray shirt and they just can't have enough. Pick up three for the hell of it.

If you don't have one satisfied fashion blogger on your hands with one of these bad boys, then he or she probably isn't a legit fashion blogger.

Yes. I'm wearing heels on the edge of a bunch of unstable rocks next to a waterfall. Am I crazy? A little bit. Did I fall? Luckily, no. Before we went back to our new homes in New York City and Philadelphia, Kirsten and I met up in our hometown to go on a photo adventure. I didn't know where we were going when I put on my heels, so when Kirsten parked in front of a hiking trail I smacked my hands to my head. Due to the ample amount of leaves and the bitter cold, it was hard to tell if the next step you took would be slippery or rocky. Embracing my inner Pocahontas,  I took off my heels and took on the steep trail in tight-covered feet. I like to think that makes me a badass. In the end it was all worth it. I mean, come on...look at that waterfall! I'm definitely making another trip back in the warmer weather to have a rocky picnic.

It's back to the daily work grind and I'm still in a Thanksgiving weekend mind set. It doesn't help that I'm nomming on some Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies that I baked with my roommates last night. We made over three dozen cookies and I'm in a pumpkin and chocolate heaven right now. Now that Thanksgiving and come and gone, my roommates and I are getting pumped for the December holidays! We already decking the living room with numerous decorations and we're planning on getting a small christmas tree next weekend. I can't wait to show you guys pictures when it's all done! I'll probably be blasting holiday music all throughout December as well.

How early do you guys start celebrating?

Pumpkin Squares Recipe

Pumpkin Squares Recipe

So in my Thanksgiving potluck post, I mentioned that I brought in some delicious pumpkin squares to my office as my contribution to the epic feast. My roommate, Rob, is obsessed with everything and all things pumpkin when the fall rolls around and I'm pretty sure it rubs off on me. I can't help but share in his obsession when I open the fridge to find pumpkin beers, pumpkin butter, and pumpkin pie. There's just too much pumpkin to handle! That's why I knew I had to try out my friend's recipe for these Pumpkin Squares. It was love at first sight. If you guys are looking for a deliciously easy treat to make for an upcoming holiday party, I highly recommend these. They're little bits of heaven and they're not overly sweet (so your family will fawn over them without feeling guilty). Let me know if you guys try out the recipe! :)

Your Time Will Come If You Wait For It

Happy Black Friday! I told myself I wouldn't give into the urge to wait in hour-long lines this year just to save a few dollars on things I didn't need. I also didn't listen to myself when I was saying all of that nonsense. I dragged my friend, Jim, on a 1:30 AM adventure to the nearest Urban Outfitters and then proceeded to bury myself in their sale section. Ultimately, I left with three tops and a necklace for under $50, including a shirt to wear out on my birthday next week, which was my goal to begin with. Now I'm back on my strict no-clothing budget. Did any of you guys rampage the stores early in the morning?

Tonight my mom, my brother, and I are going to have a belated Thanksgiving feast consisting of a delicious hot pot. This is how we usually celebrate bigger holidays, including Christmas and birthdays. Unfortunately, this year my dad is abroad during the holidays so it'll be a little lonely with one empty chair. Guess we'll just have to fill it with more food. ;)

I'm thankful for the one who taught me how to live.
I'm thankful for the one who taught me to stand my ground.
I'm thankful for the one who taught me how to respect others.
I'm thankful for the one who taught me how to be a friend.
I'm thankful for the one who taught me how to fall in love.
I'm thankful for the one who taught me how to fall in love with myself.
I'm thankful for the one who taught me to be kind.
And I'm thankful for you, my blog reader, for teaching me that what I have to say can matter.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating (and even those that aren't). What are you thankful for? :)

22nd Birthday Wish List

22nd Birthday Wish List

1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9

Just because I've been on a shopping ban doesn't mean I can't window shop online, right? Since my birthday is coming up at the end of next week, I decided that I would treat myself to something for once. I already picked up some Sony headphones this past weekend and I'm thinking of snatching up something from this list! What do you guys think I should treat myself to?

Also, for my fellow Parks and Recreation fans: TREAT YO SELF!

Thanksgiving Potluck Induced Food Coma

Thanksgiving Potluck Induced Food Coma

Joe Fresh Blouse (similar)
H&M Heeled Loafers (similar)

It was one of those days where I decided I wanted to dress up for work. It was also one of those days where I decided bare legs were appropriate for 40°F weather. I'm too stubborn to bow down to Mother Nature and her cold, winter chills. She knows I'll give in eventually though, especially when the temperature continues to drop as the holidays approach.

We had an early Thanksgiving potluck at work today and I was pretty much in the food coma for the majority of the day. There were so many side dishes varying from green bean casserole, sweet potato fries, to bok choy salad. Don't even get me started on desserts! I helped myself to espresso cookies, Nutella-filled cupcakes, and pumpkin pie. I contributed to the dessert table with some pumpkin squares, using a recipe courtesy of my friend Stephen. So delicious. I can't wait to make more for the ugly sweater party I'm throwing with my roommates in December. What do you guys like to cook up for Thanksgiving?

Just Remember to Fall in Love, There's Nothing Else

It's the end of a weekend well spent and I'm so ready to crawl under my sheets and pass out. I went out Friday evening with two of my college friends. One of them lives in midtown and she just bought a hamster who she affectionately named Rumple, after Rumpelstiltskin from the infamous fairy tale.  I'm pretty sure I obsessed over him for a good hour while he tried to escape the wrath of my hands.

Saturday was full of errands with my roommate, Crystal, since we had some apartment necessities to pick up. She rented a Zipcar and we traveled to this huge shopping center about fifteen blocks away from our apartment that had a Costco, Marshall's, and Target. It was pretty much shopping heaven, to say the least. Now we finally have a lamp for our living room (it only took us three months). The last thing on our list is a cheap dining room table since our dining room currently houses Rob's bike.

After a busy day running errands, we let off some steam and headed downtown to Phebe's with a handful of friends for a few drinks. Phebe's ended up being much wilder than we expected with biddies everywhere. We managed to make it out alive (although Crystal hurt her knee) so I would call it a successful night overall.

I spent my Sunday filling my stomach with delicious foods. I met up with a few co-workers to get Dim Sum in Chinatown. We went to Golden Unicorn (it was my second time there) and I would highly recommend it if you're ever craving some delicious Asian food in the city. The wait is a bit long if you're there during prime lunch hours, but it's so worth it! Then after Skyping with Jeremy for a bit, which always puts a smile on my face, I caught up with an old high school friend over four-and-a-half star Thai food.

But the deliciousness doesn't stop there. My roommate Rob and I are about to whip up a batch of Pumpkin Squares for my company's Thanksgiving potluck tomorrow. I posted the recipe on my Facebook page the other day to remind myself to try it out. If they're a success you'll probably end up seeing them on my blog later this week. ;)

P.S. I am aware that I wrote an essay about my weekend, as if everyone wants to read an hourly log of my life.
