Twenty Four Candles

Another year has come and gone and you know what? I couldn't be happier with what I've accomplished this past year and where I find myself today...and that's a damn good feeling. Hopefully I'll be able to say the exact same 365 days from now. Here's to celebrating with great friends, delicious food, and lovely surprises throughout the past week.

On another note, I spent a few days back in New Jersey to visit my family for the Thanksgiving holiday. Whenever I'm back home, I can't resist taking a trip to my favorite photo spot with my mom to grab a few quick shots. It's crazy how it changes so much over time and during different seasons (i.e. 2010, 2011). Guess it's also crazy how much I've changed over time. Damn, son.

2014 Gift Guide: The Friend Who Only Wears Neutrals

Now that Thanksgiving is over and Black Friday is coming to an end (sort of, kind of, soon please?), I figured it was a good enough time as any to start up my holiday gift guides again (click the link to see ones from last year). So I present to you, the first one focusing on that friend who only wears neutrals because "they're easy to match". Any silly or real-life suggestions for my next guide?

1. J.Crew Metallic Latte Mug
2. Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
5. Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquer in Cocoa Cabana
8. Banana Republic Jill Scarf

Above Ground Subways + Beanies

Green Sweater Coat c/o Sheinside (similar, similar), Urban Outfitters Mustard Skirt (similar), Muscle Tee c/o Junk Food Clothing (similar), H&M Black Beanie (similar), Urban Outfitters Canvas Crossbody Satchel, Fleece-Lined Tights c/o Silkies (similar), Black Combat Boots c/o LuLu*s

And so continues my aggressive efforts to become a hat person. Introducing, the beanie that I refused to take off for an entire weekend because I just felt that much hip wearing it. And warmer. Dude, it was so toasty all up in there.

In regards to this outfit, um, have you ever seen an outfit so perfectly coordinated with the background? Coincidence? I swear it is. I'm not that psychotic where I walk around my neighborhood and plan outfits to match certain areas...but that sounds like a pretty cool photo series idea now that I think about it, no?

I think I've blabbered on for a little too long now. It's a half day at work today due to the Thanksgiving holidays and I can't wait to get some home cooking in my belly. Enjoy the holidays for those of you that are celebrating!

Huge Hats + Badass Boots

Forever 21 Brown Dolman Coat (similar), Thrifted Raven Sweater (similar), Plaid Button-Down Flannel c/o Sheinside (similar), Tanya Jeans c/o Level 99, Black Combat Boots c/o LuLu*s, Green Hat c/o LuLu*s, Black Bag c/o OASAP (similar)

Guys, I'm obsessed with this hat. On the other hand, I also feel like an asian version of Pharrell Williams at the Grammy's this past year. I've always said I wasn't a hat person for the majority of my life due to my large head and my protruding ears, but this year I'm convinced I can change that. Some of my more honest friends will tell me that my efforts, although respectable, just aren't working. But whatever, nothing wrong with lookin' a fool if you're feelin' like a boss, right?

Also, you'll start to notice over the next week or so that I'm obsessed with these boots and that they aren't coming off my feet anytime soon. They make me feel like a total badass with the leather and the extra straps and they also give me some extra height without me feeling like I'm actually wearing heels. It's some kind of sorcery, dude. Sorcery.

Twenty Four is Looking Good | Wishlist

2. One Kings Lane Colorblock Duffel Bag
3. Hat Attack Knit Gloves
4. Sam Edelman Zachery Cut-Out Heels
5. J. Crew Striped Tee
7. One Kings Lane Tray

In a week I'll be 24 years old and I'm so excited my butt might fall off. That's right, my butt. And that's not a good thing since I don't have much butt to spare. But regardless of the fear of losing my butt, I'm so damn excited. Growing up, 24 was always my ideal age; you're far enough into your 20's for people to take you seriously but you're only starting to enter your mid-twenties so there's no risk of falling into any quarter-life crisis (I bet I just jinxed myself). Plus, it's an even number and even numbers rock. A lot.

So in honor of aging, here's me being materialistic and listing out some things I'd love to find underneath my birthday tree (if that's even a thing, because it should be).

Chilly Runs in New York City

Forever 21 Navy Bomber Coat (similar), Obey Navy Sweatshirt c/o LuLu*s, Navy Polka Dot Dress c/o LuLu*s (similar), Black Fleece-Lined Tights c/o Silkies, Forever 21 Earmuffs (similar), Urban Outfitters Crossbody Satchel, Black Lace-Up Boots c/o LuLu*s

I'm about to leave my apartment to go run a 5K in 30 degree weather. There are so many things wrong with that sentence: (1) the fact that I'm leaving my beautifully warm apartment, (2) the fact that I'm about to go run a 5K which is a miracle for someone who used to be anti-gym back in college, and (3) that it's this cold out in November.

At least I'll be running alongside the river on the west side and I'll be rewarded with a free beer and a medal at the end, as if running around three miles makes you a super star. But you know, I'll take it. I'll be a superstar for a day.

Love Letter to Oversized Flannel

Forever 21 Navy Bomber Coat (similar), Red Oversized Plaid Shirt c/o Sheinside, Levi's 501 Boyfriend Jeans, Gabriella Rocha Mauve Booties (similar), Aldo Backpack (similar)

Dear Oversized Flannel,

You complete me.

You're not like the other flannel made for women. Those flannels are fitted or always have some pink or purple mixed in to make the plaid more "feminine". The sleeves are always too well designed to fit my arms so it's hard to casually throw it on over a t-shirt without feeling confined.

You're also not like flannel made for men. Don't get me wrong; men's flannel? Phenomenal. Always the softest fabric. The warmest fabric. The perfect colors. BUT THEY FO' MEN. They hang off my body like a lifeless piece of cloth.

So this is why, oversized flannel, I love you so dearly. You're made for my womanly (sort of) figure but you still leave enough room so I feel wild and free. You're thick enough to keep me warm and long enough to wear around the apartment without pants, where I won't feel weird about being pantsless in front of my open, curtainless windows. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you (until my Netflix habits get out of control and I can't fit into you anymore). Keep doing that thing you do.

Love,
Jen

Are We Out of the Woods Yet

Forever 21 Beige Coat (similar), Urban Outfitters  Oatmeal Cropped Knit Sweater (similar), Black Striped Midi Dress c/o LuLu*s (similar), Black Fleece-Lined Tights c/o Silkies, Black Flats c/o LuLu*s (similar), Forever 21 Earmuffs (similar)

Don't hate for the use of Taylor Swift lyrics in my blog post title. I'm not the biggest fan of that song but these lyrics are pretty accurate when it comes to describing this post. We had just packed up and said goodbye to our little cabin, our home for this past weekend, and we were just about to drive out of the woods. So take that hate and put it up your butt.

But anyway, since no one was probably hating anyway except my inner self, by the look of the trees around me you can tell winter is quickly pushing fall out of the way and replacing the sea of oranges and reds with bare branches and icy mornings. All I have to say is, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Remembrance Day in Gettysburg

Forever 21 Beige Coat (similar), Forever 21 Gray Knit Sweater (similar), Madewell Chambray Shirt, Black Dress c/o LuLu*s, Black Fleece-Lined Tights c/o Silkies, Georgia Tan Boots c/o LuLu*s (similar), Forever 21 Earmuffs (similar), Urban Outfitters Blanket Scarf (similar)

During our mini-getaway in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, we took a day trip to the Gettysburg National Military Park and did a portion of the auto tour on our own to see some of the battlefields. We spent most of the day nerding out with our flashbacks from high school history classes. The last time I was in Gettysburg was actually during a field trip in sophomore year of high school. We went to this exact spot, Little Round Top, which gives you the most beautiful views of the battlegrounds.

Turns out we actually picked the best weekend to be in Gettysburg by a complete accident since they were celebrating Remembrance Day. We ended up being able to watch the Remembrance Day parade go through the streets of downtown after we feasted at the Farnsworth House Inn, known to be haunted by sharpshooters and other soldiers of the sort back from the Civil War.

All in all, we felt like we were taking a high school field trip all over again, but there's nothing wrong with that. After all, field trips were sick as hell, amirite?
