These Boots Were Made for Walking

So in the midst of Halloweekend I didn't have time to sit down and properly update my blog, but here I am, sitting in front of my computer on a lovely Saturday morning. I'm finally getting a new phone today. I've been surviving off my phone from a few years ago that has buttons falling off and decaying. Now I'll be back to having my face glued to my phone. Hooray? My dependency on technology is a little bit depressing.

This weekend has been pretty amazing so far starting Thursday night and it's not even close to being over. I'll definitely post pictures from this weekend on Monday including some of my costumes. I love being able to take a break from school and just go crazy with my favorite people in the world. :)

(shirt urban outfitters, t-shirt zara, jeans gap, boots dsw, necklace, ring forever 21)

This is one of my casual outfits. You guys didn't think I wore skirts, dresses, heels, and wedges to all my classes, did you? It's finally boot season (at least for me) and I love wearing these boots. I used to be anti-boot for the longest time and I told myself I'd never wear a pair. After starting this blog I decided that boots weren't that bad, but I was still extremely picky when it came to finding a pair of boots that fit my specific qualifications. They needed to have a rounded toe, needed to be flat soled, had to be suede, and had to be slouchy. It was a year-long hunt with my mom but we finally came across this pair and they were perfect.

P.S. Happy Birthday, Robin!

The Animal Instinct Within Me

The Animal Instinct Within Me

So this is another look I put together for the Snapshot Fashionista Challenges! All of us had to work with the theme of animal print so I pulled out my leopard print tights from hiding and brought out the animal within me (haha...ha...). I actually really love these tights but they make me feel a little bit like a ho when I'm walking from class to class. It doesn't help that I look mad sketchy already lugging around my school bag, camera bag, and tripod. I'm also always heading towards deserted areas.

But enough about me, go check out how the other four girls wore their animal print! :)

This past weekend was full of ups and downs. The ups definitely canceled out the downs but unfortunately the weekend left off on a stressful note and it's the most recent memory. But focusing on the good, I went to the beach on Saturday night with Jeremy. I've always had a love for the beach since I was younger and my favorite times to go to the beach are at night in the fall. It's deserted, a little bit chilly, and the moon is beautiful. Whenever I'm stressed or not really at a good place in my life I like making the drive out to the beach. Looking out into the ocean horizon makes me feel so insignificant and for once it's not about me and my problems. I guess it's my form of therapy.

Begonia Skies Like A Sleepyhead

Begonia Skies Like A Sleepyhead

So I'm having kind of an amazing day so far.  Before going to bed last night I watched When In Rome with my roommate (Monisha) and it was nice having a night where I didn't have to worry about an upcoming exam or homework assignment due. I woke up to the lack of an alarm, got IHOP (om nom nom nutella crepes), and then went shopping and scored a dress, two skirts, and a shirt for under $40. Now I'm at work at it's an easy, chill day and I'm off to the theater later tonight to see a movie. Oh, and did I mention it's the perfect breezy, autumn day? Well, it is. :)

(sweater topshop, pleated slip urban outfitters via Melinda, belt delia*s, wedges reaction kenneth cole)

This is by far my favorite photo shoot and outfit this month. I've been meaning to find a way to wear this slip for the longest time but I could never figure out how to.  It's completely see through so obviously quite scandalous and the fact that it's an empire dress makes it hard to layer with other dresses. Luckily, I decided to be a little bit of a tease and wear it just as it is but with my Topshop sweater I splurged on back during NYFW. The main reason I bought this Topshop sweater is because of the beautiful rose-mauve color. :)

And if you're confused about my status, I'm just currently obsessed with the song Sleepyhead by Passion Pit. It's kind of funny since that's exactly what I've been this past week - a sleepyhead. All I ever do is sleep. If I'm hungry, my solution is to sleep. If I'm bored, my solution is to sleep. If I'm stressed, I sleep. I just sleep and sleep and sleep which is ironic since I believe that sleep is a waste of time. ...If only I could take naps during work. Oh wait, I do.

Honey Mustard

I love the color of mustard, especially in the fall when the weather gets colder and I match the leaves. I'm not so much a fan of mustard as food though. The only exception I'll make is honey mustard for my onion rings. I bet you guys love reading about my love and hatred for mustard.

So my giant lump of exams is finally over (for now) so I have a breather until November comes around. Plus I have my crazy awesome mini-van at school with me for a week or two so I'll be able to drive home whenever I'm in the mood to. Hopefully I'll get to make a chilly trip to the beach as well before my car returns home for good. But until then I better to finish up some work I've been putting off. :)

Bumming Around

I've been so busy this whole entire weekend that I haven't had time to update this blog and I'm feeling pretty lousy about it. This weekend was a roller coaster but overall I'd give it a thumbs up. Despite the fact that I have two exams and a huge project all due either Tuesday or Wednesday, I still decided to just relax and do whatever the hell I wanted to do. I'll probably regret it when I'm pulling two consecutive all-nighters but as of right now I'm pretty content with life. I was actually supposed to study all day today but instead I just passed out from exhaustion and ate lots of food. What else is new.

(shirt dress h&m, belt topshop, cardigan ?, necklace forever 21, wedges seychelles)

This was a rushed outfit since I didn't have much time to get dressed that day. I just threw on some reliable basics and I ended up loving the look. I love outfits like this since they aren't high maintenance (i.e. pulling down your skirt, pulling up your tights, adjusting shirt length, etc.)

Well, I'm going to stop being such a bum and do some homework. Hopefully I don't lose my sanity in the process and gain 20 pounds.

We Can't Afford to Be Neutral

We Can't Afford to Be Neutral

I'm currently cramming for my Marketing Research Midterm because, like always, I choose to be a slacker. I was going to take the whole entire day today from 12pm-12am and reserve it for studying. Instead, so far I studied for a total of 2 hours, slept for 5 hours, ate for 2 hours, and went out with friends for 3 more hours. So now I'm going to study from midnight until 3 am, sleep for a bit, then study some more in the morning. I'm not very good with time management at all. I mean well, but I never follow through.

At one point during one of my multiple naps this afternoon, I had a dream where I was waiting for an elevator that you had to swipe a card to open. I couldn't find my card so I just stood around waiting for someone to come along. And you know how in dreams, sleeping for 10 minutes can equal 2 hours in a dream? I waited for this elevator for approximately 5 hours in dream time so I pretty much wanted to kill myself. Even better, was when someone finally did come along, I had no idea what floor or room I had to go to. Thank god my friend called me at that point and he woke me up from my misery.

(sweater zara, scarf urban outfitters, shorts hollister, tights HUE, heels urban outfitters)

This is actually one of my favorite outfits that I've worn recently. I love neutrals with all my heart (you guys have probably noticed that I don't wear that many bright colors) so I felt pretty comfortable in my whites, beiges, and browns. And it's the return of my tights! :) This was actually another Snapshot Fashion Assignment; this week the theme was scarves! Go check out how the rest of the girls worked their scarves.

While the Night is Still Young

October 12, 2010

While the Night is Still Young

I'm at work right now (what else is new) and my stomach is grumbling (what else is new). When I took these pictures the other night I was so excited that I got to take my trench coat out from hiding and wear it out into the chilly night air. This is actually one of the very, very, very rare outfit shots taken after the sun has set. I usually prefer to take my pictures when it's still light outside.
My trench coat isn't permanently out of hiding though since the weather is like a roller coaster these days.  I'll be working on my tan one day and then piling on the layers the next.

Speaking of roller coasters, I took a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure a few days ago with my friends. I haven't been in about a year so it was nice getting away from school and just relaxing. Then again, my friends from high school came to visit the night before and I didn't crash back at my apartment until 5:30am so I was feeling a little bit groggy at the amusement park. Let's just say, if your stomach is still full of toxic liquids, don't get on the Tea Cup ride and proceed to spin it as hard as you can until everyone's almost spinning out of the cup.

My Photographers: What They're Wearing

My Photographers: What They're Wearing

As you guys already know, I enslave a couple of my friends that I'm comfortable enough with to take my outfit pictures. Who the photographer is depends on the day I'm taking pictures. At the beginning of these outfit photo shoots I always set the aperture, white balance, and ISO and take some test shots using my photographer as the subject in order to determine how I want my pictures to turn out. Luckily all of them are more than willing to pose for a little bit and act as a temporary "Jen".

So because of this, I decided to start up a new feature called My Photographers: What They're Wearing. They all have their own personal style as well and I thought it'd be fun to share them with you because who can't use even more inspiration, right?  Plus, you guys also get some men's fashion. :P

1. Monisha
The Roommate
She's always willing to take photos for me when we both have time in our busy schedules. They rarely overlap but it's nice when they do. When we go out for outfit shots, they usually turn into mini-photo shoots where we'll both be dressed up. You guys have probably seen her on my blog a few times throughout the year (for example, this post, where this picture is from). She's good at making me laugh so I don't look so awkward posing for photographs. And Monisha, I know you're reading this, which means I should probably mention how god damn amazing you are unless I want to get yelled at later. Because you are. Amazing, that is. :)

2. Robin
The Best Guy Friend
Robin took almost all of my photos from when I first started my blog in December until mid-May when the spring semester ended. He's always been there and supported me in terms of my blog. Over time he's figured out how I like my pictures so he doesn't need much direction now. Now that we live on different campuses I've started enslaving some other friends but we'll meet up occasionally to catch up and to take some outfit shots. He's pretty fashionable so I like taking shots of him too (for example, this shot was taken during this photo shoot).

3. Jess
The Childhood Friend
Jess is one of my favorite people in the world and I've known her since the 5th grade. It's amazing that we've been able to stay in touch for so long but she's one of those people where I just get along with perfectly. I can see us sitting in rocking chairs in 60 years just talking about our lives like we always do. She doesn't mind helping out with my outfit photos either (you'll recognize the background from this photo from my last post). She's always got great ideas for new locations (especially since she lives on the most scenic campus at Rutgers). I've taken a few photo shoots with her on the beach as well this past summer!

4. Jeremy
The Boy
Jeremy is probably my newest photographer (and I hope he's not reading this). I haven't really asked him to take pictures of me yet but he's always willing to help out when I do ask him. When Jasmine came to visit for NYFW he walked around campus with us and was our photographer for the morning. You might recognize the background from this picture from the Dynamic Duo shoot; I thought he should get some outfit shots as well, haha. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met and he's always there for me when I need him to be. :)

5. Tripod
My Steady Hand
I have an unhealthy love affair with my tripod. It's always there for me, ready to take pictures, and lends me a steady hand when the lighting isn't the best. This picture is actually a test shot I was doing when setting the manual focus. You might recognize the background from my first photoshoot with my fish dress.

Man, I don't think I've ever written so much in one post. But the next edition of "My Photographers" will be a lot shorter since you guys would've already been introduced to them.  I'll introduce my two home photographers as well next time (Kirsten and Jim)! :)

Madewell in the Rain

Madewell in the Rain

Oh, hey, Madewell shoes. How are you? PRETTY DAMN AMAZING? I thought so.

So every time I wear these jeans someone always asks me if I'm wearing Jeggings. I'm going to start wearing a shirt with an arrow pointing towards my jeans that says "Not Jeggings". But Not.

I find myself wearing jeans a lot more these days rather than skirts and dresses. Usually I'm dying to drag out my tights from their summer hiding location but for some reason I'm taking my time this year. Maybe it's because the weather is confused and bipolar these days. The day before yesterday it was raining on and off constantly. Yesterday it was in the low 50's and pretty chilly so I was getting all my outwear out. Today was sunny and in the low 70's so I'm putting my outerwear back in the back of my closet. The weather really has to make up its mind sometime soon before I go crazy and lock myself indoors where the temperature is constant.

(cardigan urban outfitters, blouse h&m, jeans forever 21, sandals madewell)

So recently I've been wondering in which direction I want to take this blog. In only a couple of months I'm going to hit the one-year mark with JennifHsieh and I've never stuck with something for such a long time before. I have a short attention span with most things, have a lack of patience, or just get bored easily. For example, since I started in December 2009, my blog layout has changed at least 3-4 times (I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with this one for a while though - but who knows). So I'm asking you guys, as my readers, what do you want to see from this blog? More outfit photos? Some blogger features? Men's fashion? More about my life? Just shout it out there and I'll listen. :)

Don't forget to enter my Chictopia10 Conference Goodie Bag Giveaway! And Check out my new Facebook Page. I just edited the look of it (instead of paying attention in class).

Twisted Up in Branches

So in result of my constant skipping of classes (in particular Financial Management) now I'm unprepared for my exam this wednesday. I actually had no idea I had an exam until a few minutes ago but oh well. I'll just have to cram super hard to prepare. Wish me luck!

(chambray shirt gap, tank old navy, jeans forever 21, shoes urban outfitters, necklace forever 21)

I'm sorry the majority of these photos are out of focus or blurry. I kept on moving around for these shots and my roommate, who was my photographer for the day, couldn't keep up. It's one of those moments where all of your pictures look great on the camera screen but once you upload them onto your computer they look like a hot mess, haha. A big thanks to her though for taking these shots really quick after her class. :)
