Oh Sailor, Why'd You Do It?

These were taken before the snowstorm came (aka a while ago). This dress is actually a beach cover-up so it's quite low in the front and even lower in the back, but i worked it anyway because I love the pattern. Oh, and it's comfortable, and that's all that matters, right? I wanted to keep my coat on but my photographer insisted I take it off to get better pictures of my outfit. I froze my ass off but manned it up. :)

I got to bond with two of my best friends the other night and I loved it. Finally got around to watching Good Will Hunting. It only took us a year or two, haha. I absolutely loved it, such great performances from Matt, Ben, and Minnie. Minnie is an adorable woman and Mr. Affleck is gorgeous (although no one beats my men Adrian Brody and Gerard Butler). Strange taste in men? I think so.
I drove up north to visit my photographer today (why does he live so far away?). It was a long, lonely, chilly (and windy) ride, but it was worth it. :)

Mmm, Water

I don't know if you can tell, but I'm not really drinking water. I'm actually trying not to laugh while my photographer snapped the shot. We were being silly in one of the classroom buildings after hours. This was taken a while ago (actually the next couple of outfit pictures will be from the past two weeks since I haven't posted them due to finals).

Winter Vacation is pretty relaxing and I'm definitely enjoying the lack of school work. I've done a little clothes shopping and a little bit of shoe shopping (i now officially own my first pair of boots! I like boots on other people, but for the longest time I was so anti-boots for myself.). The picture below took so long to get since it was really dim out (you can't tell in the picture). My photographer had a little trouble holding the camera still but he never gave up :)

hope you guys are enjoying the holidays!

These are a Few of my Favorite Things (Giveaway)!

i hope you guys are all having a fabulous christmas or enjoying the holidays snug and warm at home (or on vacation)! although my family doesn't really celebrate christmas much and we don't exchange gifts, it's still a nice, relaxing christmas. the tree is up and we're going to make dumplings together (so asian, i know). and my brother is coming home tonight :)
i've only started on this blog for about a month now and i've gotten so many followers and supportive comments. i'm having so much fun on here and so to thank all of you fellow bloggers out there i'm having a christmas giveaway! i thought, what better than to share with you guys some of my favorite things? There will be THREE prizes for THREE winners! :)

1) Fekkai Sheer Hold®  Hairspray (1.5 oz)

This is my absolute favorite hairspray. Whenever I curl my hair I spray a little of this on and it holds my style for hours without making it stiff. I can still run my fingers through to loosen up my waves :) <3

2) Forever 21 Olive Rib Column Tights (M/L)

I don't know if you guys have noticed but I adore tights. I keep on growing my collection and buying more and more colors. I don't think I'm going to try for the whole rainbow (I doubt I'd wear every color) but I want to come close! Olive Green is a color I don't have yet (and would love to own) but I'll pass it on to one lucky winner.

3) Forever 21 Charm Necklace

I get most of my jewelry from Forever 21 due to their cheap prices and LARGE variety. I usually go for simple necklaces rather than statement pieces and I love this adorable charm necklace (especially the wishbone).

Here are the Official Rules to Enter:
1) You must include your first name and your email address in a comment.
2) You must be a Google Reader follower OR a fan on chictopia (let me know which).
3) You must pick only one of the prizes and tell me which one.
4) Finally, tell me how you spent your lovely christmas :)

Example Entry:
Jen (jennif.hsieh@gmail.com)
I'm a follower/fan!
I want the hairspray!
I spent my christmas warm and snug in front of the tv watching Willy Wonka. :)

The winners will all be drawn randomly (I'll put all your names in a cup) and notified through email. Each winner will receive their chosen gift and a few other random goodies! The deadline to enter is Wednesday, December 30. (Open to U.S. and International Readers, only because I'm feeling pretty damn generous) Good Luck! :)

* Blog about this giveaway for an extra entry (for any of the three prizes, doesn't have to be the same one you picked for your first entry). Send me the link to where you blogged about it in a new comment! :)

Tag & Awards

I'm finally home and all snug in my bed. Home cooked food has never tasted better and my Christmas tree is finally up! Now the only thing that's missing is my older brother who's still back at his university, what an idiot. He better get back for Christmas or he'll have me to answer to. So I have a billion outfit pictures to upload from the past two weeks but they can wait. I received two very lovely awards recently that I want to pass onto some of you guys:

The always lovely Monika from Monika's Corner awarded me the One Lovely Blog Award.
RULES:
1. Put the logo on your blog or post.
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs which you think are fabulous.
3. Be sure to link to your nominees within your post.
4. Be sure to let them know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.

I'm passing this award onto: Jasmine from Transient Withdrawal, Bug from In Bug's Drawers, Tieka from Selective Potential, Jenny from Fashion for Writers, Healthy and Homemade, Marie from Lemondrop Vintage, Caroline from COSMICaroline, Camilla from Rainbow Paving Stones, Julie from Orchid Grey, and Erika from Cafe Fashionista.

Ms. Gee from La Bella Vita et Moi also awarded me with The Haute Mess Award. She's so sweet! :)

I think I'm supposed to write 7 facts about myself then tag 7 people:
1) My top four most disliked foods are mushrooms, eggplant, squid, and lima beans. Sorry, you guys just don't appeal to my taste buds :(
2) I used to take ballet for a couple of years when I was younger but I dropped out because I never had enough patience to practice and didn't take it seriously.
3) If I ever go broke and can't find a job, I'm going to write a soap opera based on my recent love rectangle.
4) I have more scarves then I' ll ever wear (and my mom isn't too happy about that).
5) I'm a very impatient person.
6) Back in my middle school days, when my parents thought I was sound asleep, I would rock out to Simple Plan, Britney Spears, and Avril Lavigne.
7) When I was 1 and on my first airplane ride, I stood up on my seat and started pulling out the hairs from the balding gentleman sitting in front of me.

Passing this award onto: Lauren from This Little Piggie, Leah, English Rose, The Owl's Closet, Kerri from Wear Necessities, Natalya from Wear Necessities, and Taylor from Auburn Not Red.

Finally, Corinna from Feathers and Air (one of my favorite bloggers) tagged me to take part in Cassie's Therapy Video. Such an adorable idea :)

The Task: fill in 12 likes, 1 love and 8 hates like Cassie in her therapy video. Below, the bolded things are what you MUST include. Also, please link it back to me, and link it onto 3 other blogs you admire!

Baby, It's Cold Outside

these pictures were from Saturday when the snow storm started. i ran outside regardless of my outfit and ran around in the snow. (that's not actually a dress, it's a tank top that pulled down to wear as a skirt because i was in love with the color). my photographer patiently waited as i frolicked and then took a few pictures before we both froze to death.
speaking of freezing, in an older post i mentioned how some of my tights would rip easily, especially the ones of poorer quality. the ever so lovely Jo from Sweet, Mysterious Feast gave me the tip to freeze my tights in the freezer to make them stronger and help them last longer. feeling a little strange, i made some room in my freezer, popped my tights into a ziploc bag, and let them chill over night. I took them out in the morning and lo and behold they felt a little stronger (and a lot colder)! You can't really feel the difference but they haven't ripped yet! :)

(coat american rag, blouse heritage 1981, tank old navy, tank as skirt urban outfitters, tights hue, shoes blowfish)
p.s.
my photographer, who was sick and still stood out in the falling snow, reluctantly posed for a few shots. all he wanted to do was go into the dining hall and get food.

Broad Stripes and Bright Stars

I was so insanely excited when the always beautiful Indiana from Adored Austin announced that I was the grand prize winner of her Accessorize Giveaway. I'm pretty sure I squealed from excitement when my picture was drawn from the vase. :) These are the looks I submitted to her Red, White & Blue contest. And before you ask, yes, i was absolutely freezing. If you zoom in really really close I'm pretty sure you'd be able to see all my tiny goosebumps.

I wasn't too sure about wearing my converse with this look. I didn't want to wear black shoes with this outfit and my photographer insisted I looked adorable with my converse. Being a lazy bum I just took my word for it but I'm still not sold on the idea. What do you guys think?

So right now there's a snow storm going on outside (you wouldn't think so considering what i'm wearing in these ridiculous pictures). I'm so excited to wake up tomorrow with six inches of snow on the ground. Actually I probably won't wake up since I'll be pulling an all-nighter writing this god damn paper. Save me! I want to be outside making snowmen and smashing snowballs into people's faces. :(

Tipsy in Heels

This is the outfit I wore to my best friend's semi-formal in nyc that I mentioned in a previous post (i look so sneaky in the picture above). My photographer picked up a very tipsy version of me from the train station in the middle of the night and snapped a few outfit pictures. Then he took me to get some delicious pizza. I don't know how I didn't freeze to death with my bare legs (blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol). Also, how do some of you girls walk around in heels all the time? My feet had brutally painful blisters after that night...and they're still there! I'm currently nursing my feet back to health while still procrastinating on my 10-page paper.

(lace dress forever 21, coat american rag, shoes jessica simpson)

p.s. this is the new coat i scored when i went coat shopping. alas, i didn't get a colorful coat (although i was eying this little purple jacket that had one too many buttons - i was so tempted to pluck a few off) but i'm satisfied with my purchase. :)

Kimono

i'm not japanese, but putting this poplin cross-front aa dress and the aa sash sure made me feel like i was. i felt like bowing to every one i saw (ah, i'm stereotyping!). I really need to invest in shoes that aren't black. My shoe collection consists of black ruffle flats, black casual flats, moccasins, black heels, black strappy heels, purple flats, and gray converse. Definitely going to go shoe shopping over the holidays with my mom.

I'm desperately counting down the days until I'm done with finals and back at home. I'm missing home cooking and my ridiculously comfortable bed. Yesterday was the first day of finals. Thankfully I don't have my first final until next Monday, and then I have another one on Wednesday, the last day of finals. I also have a 10-page paper to write. Sigh. At least I'll be home in time for Christmas Eve. :)

(cardigan delia's, poplin dress aa, sash aa, tights wet seal, ruffle flats payless)

p.s. how fashionable is my photographer? i insisted we take a few shots of his outfit. he's very lovable. i think i'll make him take outfit pictures with me from now on. :)

p.p.s. should my font size be bigger? i love the look of the tiny font but perhaps it's a little tough to read :(

Neutral

I really wanted to wear these tights but I knew they wouldn't even come close to protecting me from the cold. Therefore, I layered a pair of gray tights underneath the patterned, cut-out tights. I tried keeping the color palette neutral but I'm a little worried I look washed-out.

My photo show is in under an hour for my Physics and Photography class and I'm pretty excited :) Then I'm headed off to NYC to be my best friend's date for a dance at his university. I've got a fun night ahead of me! Just gotta figure out what to wear of course. The pictures below were taken in the School of the Arts building at my university (I was developing pictures for this upcoming show) and I had to get a picture with the red walls (although they clash with this outfit horrendously).

Dumbo

There is never a photoshoot where my ear doesn't stick out in at least half the pictures. I'm kind of like Dumbo here: big ears and gray. I find I always wear black flats and a black or gray coat in all of my pictures. I guess when I was younger I always just had one coat I'd wear year round, even throughout High School. My photographer and I are going to go shopping on Sunday so hopefully I can invest in a nice, colorful coat and some interesting boots to keep me warm :)

These pictures were taken behind our dining hall. I can never seem to take pictures with people walking by and glancing over; it makes me nervous haha.

So classes are finally over for me but I still have two essays to write and two finals to take. Ahhh, I have to stop procrastinating but I can't seem to help it, especially since I can't help but read everyone's blog. The internet is just so much more interesting than my accounting textbook.

Layering Up

My Photographer and I decided to step out into the freezing cold to make a journey to the Library to study. I knew I would freeze my socks off so I didn't wear any socks. But I did layer up so the rest of me would be relatively warm. :) This was my go to coat last year before I got my favorite peacoat. I used to complain about the fur but now I love it. It adds a little kick to the coat! And these moccasins are perfect for cold weather since they have furry lining. yum yum.

after taking these pictures I realized that I'd be a lot warmer if I just zipped up my jacket and my coat...and I was. :)

First Snowfall

Here's the outfit I was wearing when the first bit of snow fell here in New Jersey (and my ear is peeking out again). Despite the cold weather, I won't stop wearing my tights, I can't seem to get enough of them. Being obsessed with tights these past few months has made me realize the importance of quality. Tights rip easily and often, especially when you get them from cheap locations. Usually I love stores like Forever 21 and Wet Seal for their low prices; however, when it comes to delicate items like tights and underwear, you better go somewhere else. I got tights from Macy's a couple weeks ago from H.U.E. (I love their hosiery) and they have yet to rip. They're absolutely fantastic. Also I know We Love Colors has fabulous tights in more colors than you could ever imagine (although I have yet to try their tights).
What are you guys obsessed with?

(jacket american rag, black l/s gap, plaid dress forever 21, tights forever 21, flats payless)

p.s. that's my sexy white mini-van i'm standing next too ;)
