California Road Trip | Day 4/10: 17-Mile Drive

Finally, I'm back at it again with the California road trip posts (and yes, that was a reference to that viral snapchat video). Day Four of our trip was pretty relaxing as we were visiting my family, who recently made the move to the west coast about a year ago. I haven't seen them since last summer so it was really nice to feel like I was "back home" again, which was a feeling I didn't expect to get due to the lack of the same house.

We decided to take a day trip to drive along the 17-Mile Drive, which is a scenic road through the gated community of Pebble Beach. So basically, we just looked at rich people's houses and took touristy pictures on their pristine, white sand beaches. Then we left and proceeded to stuff our faces with a Japanese buffet. Day well spent? DAY WELL SPENT.

Riding Out the Rainstorms

Ride Raincoat in Wine c/o Snowman New York (20% Discount Code: Jennifer20), Urban Outfitters Navy Polka Dot Skirt (similar), Timberland Authentics in Burgundy

The April Showers, which have turned into May Showers, haven't left quite yet and the sky is still looking pretty gray and dreary over here in New York City. Luckily for me, I had a few helpful hands reach out from Snowman New York and gift me with this raincoat that just kicks Mother Nature's ass (no offense to Mother Nature). And no, it doesn't actually make me look like a snowman, per the name of the brand.

I've always underestimated the usefulness of having waterproof clothing and I'm pretty sure the last raincoat I had was a 101 Dalmatians themed raincoat when I was five years old. So now when the wind shoots rain from all angles, I still arrive at work dry as a...what's something that's really dry? Because that's what I'm like. Also, I have to give a huge shout out to this huge hood because it actually protects my head (and hair, because I refuse to let the weather define how my hair looks) and doesn't blow off every five seconds. We're going to be best friends, hood. Best friends.

If you're in the market for a new raincoat (or bomb ass puffy coats) for the ages, they're offering you guys a 20% discount code, Jennifer20.

Rainy Weekends and Astoria Adventures

...and so the rain continues. Waking up today was a struggle as I was greeted with raindrop-ridden windows as I slowly forced my eyes open. Hello, more rain. Looks like we meet yet again.

Luckily for us, the rain took a long enough hiatus yesterday for Jeremy and I to wander outside for a walk and quick lunch in the neighborhood. We stopped by one of our favorite lunch spots in Astoria, The Bao Shoppe, which is where you go if you want to land in pork belly heaven. And pork belly heaven I did land.

Then we tried to wrap up our evening with a showing of Captain America: Civil War. The local movie theater is literally around the corner from our apartment so, like a pair of douches, we casually strolled up to the theater about 10 minutes before the start of our desired showing expecting to get tickets, no problem (especially considering there were almost 30 different showings yesterday since it's the opening weekend). We arrived to throngs and throngs of people already trying to get tickets for showings many hours later. We have underestimated you, Captain America. We are at your service. Perhaps another weekend we will meet.

Rain, Rain, Please Go Away

Forever 21 Denim Jacket (similar), Forever 21 Gray V-Neck Tee (similar), Madewell Flea Market Flare Corduroys (similar), House of Harlow 1960 Arabella Boots (similar, similar) c/o LuLu*s, H&M Gold Curve Necklace (similar)

Pretty sure Mother Earth's April Fool's joke this year was to switch April and May just for the (not-so-funny) laughs. April was full of beautiful "let's-spend-every-single-possible-minute-outdoors" weather; then, right when it hit May, all of the rain showers decide to finally make an appearance. It's psychologically unsettling and Mother Nature really has me by my metaphorical balls.

Please let go and let that summer time weather make it's way back. My bare arms and bare legs are begging you.

California Road Trip | Day 3/10: The Water Tower Loft

Madewell Lo-Fi Tee in Stripe, Madewell Brown Cropped Cardigan (similar), Madewell High Riser Skinny Jeans in Lydia

After a eight hours of driving to and from the Avenue of the Giants, Jeremy and I made our way back south and stopped by the quaint, little town of Elk. It only has a population of barely over 200 people and it had such a lovely small town feel to it. For dinner we ended up finding an incredible and underrated barbecue place, The Q (just a short drive out of down), in order to fill our bellies to the brim for a good night's sleep.

Instead of opting for a typical motel in the area, we decided to stay at The Water Tower Loft, the coziest airBnB. Not only was the entire place Pinterest worthy (because this is obviously super important when picking lodging) but the hosts, Robert and Elsa, were insanely welcoming even without their physical presence. The record player was on when we walked in and there was fresh zucchini bread waiting for us to devour.

Now if only I could live there forever, please.
