How to Win What They All Lost

Urban Outfitters Mustard Cardigan (similar) | Gap Striped Shirt (similar) | Zara Scalloped Pocket Skirt (similar) | Shoemint Satchel | Studded Boots c/o YesWalker (similar) | Cat Ring c/o Chicnova

I know what you're all thinking. Jen looks like the Hunchback of Notre Dame in the first shot. I really need to stop slouching in pictures (and in real life) but when I spend my days in front of a laptop it's hard not to. Plus, sitting straight up makes you seem like you're a bit of a pompous bastard. But I guess there's nothing wrong with that. Posture comes first! Perhaps our entire generation slouches just a bit more since we're always hunching over our mobile devices to check Facebook, reply to emails, and to cling desperately to the internet due to the need to constantly be connected.

Or maybe I was only hunching because of the way I was sitting.

Either way, my posture is the most exciting thing I have to write about today. How are you guys doing?

The Perfect Vintage Coat

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
Clockwise from Top Left

Jeremy tells me I don't need any more coats but, I think I kind of sort of do. My argument is that I have so many coats since I never throw any out. I'm still wearing coats from my freshman and sophomore year of college! (Plus, the only coat I invested in last year was a mere $11). I know it's about time that I retire the ones that are accumulating fuzz and have ripped pockets, but I'm way too emotionally connected to each and every one of them. Maybe I'll find myself donating the ones that are still lovable before this winter kicks in.

But enough about my coat habits - just because I won't be investing in a new coat anytime soon doesn't mean I can't keep my eyes out for one. One of my newest sponsors, Rice and Beans Vintage, has the most beautiful collection of vintage, designer coats. The best thing about the majority of these coats is that they are made of out wool, which means you'll conquer those wintery wind chills. The styles are unique (opt out of blending into a crowd of black peacoats) and the silhouettes are refreshing. Now I'm craving a swing coat for myself, or a coat similar to the Yves Saint Laurent piece with a masculine blazer silhouette.

What kind of coats are you guys loving or craving this season?

Card Lust Facebook Giveaway

One of my very, very talented co-workers designed Card Lust, a insanely beautiful app that allows you to send virtual cards to your friends through your phone. My favorite thing about it, besides the art that just melts my heart, is the fact that you can set special date reminders within it, so you never miss a birthday or an anniversary. The perfect way to show someone you're thinking about them with a few taps to your phone. I obnoxiously send Jeremy some at completely random times throughout the week. Why? Because I can.

But, the whole point of this post, is that she sweetly offered up 10 free redemption codes so some of you guys could try it out for yourselves! Head on over to my Facebook page to enter by commenting on the post - it's first come first serve (only open to US residents)

P.S. If you even want to send ME a card...I'm totally game. ;)

Do You Wanna Be Loved

Forever 21 Brown Dolman Coat (similar) | H&M Black Maxi (similar) | H&M Nude Crop Top | Shoemint Studded Flats (similar) | Shoemint Satchel | Forever 21 Eagle Necklace

You guys, yesterday evening was my first time being in an art exhibit. One of my co-workers is a curator on the side and organized a show called "Do You Wanna Be Loved," which features pieces that examine a generation that grew up on the internet. It was such a weird feeling to see my photography on display, but it was also interesting seeing the real-time reactions people were having to it. Then again, I stayed away from my photos since I didn't want people to know it was my piece. You can see a mediocre picture of it on my Instagram.

And now to end my weekend on a relaxing note with Jeremy as we gorge ourselves in frozen yogurt. Nom nom nom.

Dreaming of the Pacific Northwest

Color Block Sweater c/o LuLu*s | Gap Chambray Shirt (similar) | Tanya Jeans c/o Level 99 | Suede and Patent Heels c/o LuLu*s | Urban Outfitters Satchel (similar)

When I say I'm dreaming of the North West, I'm not talking about Kanye and Kim's love child. No sir. I've been itching to jump on a plane and get a much needed change of scenery for so long, so yesterday Jeremy and I bought tickets to visit Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver at the end of December to celebrate the New Year. I haven't been back to the West Coast since I lived there back in 1996 which seems like forever ago.

I know a handful of you guys are from that general area - any suggestions? Places we absolutely, positively, need to visit? Affordable and/or important places to stay? Transportation? Neighborhoods to visit? Would love some suggestions since we're absolute n00bs when it comes to the Pacific Northwest.

Oh, and of course, anyone want to meet up? ;)

Eyes Full of Hexagons

Forever 21 Denim Jacket (similar) | Dress c/o Darling Clothes | Gabriella Rocha Suede Wedges (similar) | Urban Outfitters Satchel (similar)

Obviously I was very intrigued with the ground during these pictures because I literally couldn't take my eyes away from the stone tiling. But just look at those hexagons, you guys. Those are some fine hexagons.

I'm currently staying late at the office watching Hocus Pocus with a few co-workers and downing a few beers. Such a relaxing way to end a busy Tuesday (and also to get ahead of tomorrow's workload). I actually only ever watched Hocus Pocus for the first time a little under a year ago when I went to go visit Jeremy in Turkey. It's such a cult classic with my generation so I definitely had high expectations going into it. It didn't fail to crack me up but I don't see it getting even close to the top of my list. Any fall movie suggestions for the holiday season?

Oh, and has anyone seen Gravity yet? I'm tempted to see it in IMAX with a barf bag in tow. ;)

Kissing the Tar on the Highway

DKNY Trenchcoat (similar) | Grey Marl Dress c/o Popbasic | Little Bit Tights c/o Leg Luxury | Aldo Black Wedges (similar) | Urban Outfitters Cat Ear Hat (similar)

It's a new week and this Monday could not have zoomed by any faster. The hours definitely pass by quicker when the work never stops filling up your plate until it's piled so high you can't see the end. I've never been happier to take a breath and lounge around in my apartment. I really believe in not taking your work home, unless it's an emergency, because your personal sanity is always more important than the work you do, no matter how much you love it. I can't wait until I have a place completely my own one day where I have a place to work outside of my bedroom.

But on another note, it's tights season! (Do I sound like every other style blogger out there yet? Yes? Well, deal with it.) I've found myself gravitating toward better quality tights the older I get so that they last year after year instead of having to continuously replenish my collection. It always comes down to the same amount, if not cheaper, but the tights are warmer and avoid rips. So worth it (unless you're looking for trendy tights in crazy colors - in which case I always go cheap since who know how many years you'll want to rock bright red tights). ;)

Autumn's Golden Gown - Levi's x Vogue

Western Dress c/o Levi's | Crochet Tunic Dress c/o Studio 12.20 (similar| Jackie Boots c/o Blowfish Shoes (similar| Aldo Backpack (similar)

Yesterday, Jeremy and I escaped from the city for a few hours and took the train to the adorable village of Dobbs Ferry. We rented bikes for the day and rode along the Old Croton Aqueduct, passing through nearby towns that were all just as adorable and beautiful as the next. I've never realized how close by little escapes like this were and the houses in Dobbs Ferry all had incredible views of the Hudson.

I'm pretty sure this area of New York is close to perfect in my books. A quick train ride directly into the city, gorgeous views of the Hudson river (can you say kayaking?), small town community feel, and beautiful bike paths. The only thing was how eerily quiet it was, especially the closer we got to Irvington and Sleepy Hollow. No wonder Washington Irving, who lived in a town nearby, was inspired to write such emotionally dark stories. ;)

We Might Be Hollow But We're Brave

Forever 21 Sweater (similar) | Urban Outfitters Green Floral Dress (similar) | India Boots c/o Blowfish Shoes | Topshop Heart Socks

The peak of my sickness is finally coming to an end and I'm hoping by the end of the weekend I'll be back to normal and better than ever. It was definitely a rough week to get through but I'm glad it's over. I can't wait to kick back, relax, and maybe even get out of the city for a few hours. I'm opting out of all my original plans to drink and go buck wild for a less forgettable weekend. ;)

What do you guys have planned?

Vinca Fox Earring Giveaway

Recently I rocked these badass fox earrings (c/o Vinca USA) over at the Flock Together blog in a very peasant-like outfit and I'm in love with how whimsical they are. I don't often change up my choice in earrings since I have sensitive ears that don't do well with anything except my trusty gold pair, but I'll make an exception for these from time to time. And guess what? You can win a pair for yourself.

WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?
He says "Enter Now".

Modern Influencer with Levi's x Vogue

Topshop Sweater (similar) | Joe Fresh Button-Down (similar) | Levi's Boyfriend Skinny Jeans | Patent and Suede Heels c/o Lulu's

It has hit me. I'm sick.

I'm one of those people that denies the fact that they're getting sick until it smacks them right in the face.  I can feel the sniffles coming on and my forehead is heating up but I'm going to power through because I'm a magnificent, stubborn bastard who refuses to take off from work, especially since I'm transitioning to a new position right now. I can do this.

But on a less sickly note, I'm currently collaborating with Levi's and Vogue to style up some looks featuring two of my favorite Levi's picks. I've been looking for the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans and these have proven to hold up to multiple wears without the need to wash them just to regain shape. There's most definitely a benefit to investing in a great pair of jeans instead of opting for those lifeless $10 Forever 21 pairs. I know these will last me for many more years (and they'll also be a constant reminder to stay relatively in shape so I don't wake up one morning crying because I can't pull my Levi's on). New favorite piece in my closet? Definitely.
