Hurricane Sandy Aftermath

Now that Hurricane Sandy has passed over the area, my area is now in emergency recovery mode. Personally, my home in New Jersey wasn't affected too much. My neighbors and I suffered roof damage which caused leaking into the attic - we're currently trying to get our roof fixed and covered before there's anymore rain fall. Power has been out since Monday night and it doesn't look like it'll be restored for another week, considering how many areas in New Jersey are dealing with damaged power lines. The most devastating news is that the entire New Jersey shoreline is pretty much destroyed. My friend owns a beach house down south and he said there were pieces of the boardwalk on his front porch, blocks away from the beach. Just looking at pictures, it's still shocking to realize that so much has been washed away or destroyed. A bunch of my friends are looking to volunteer their services and help recover the area over the next few months. It's extremely heartwarming to see all of New Jersey come together to help those in need.

In terms of New York City, all of lower manhattan is currently without power and without transportation. During the hurricane, they were pretty much underwater, including the areas near the East River. My apartment was evacuated, as it's situated right next to the East River, and I currently don't know the status of my building. I'm actually standing on the road outside of my apartment in these pictures (which were taken pre-hurricane) which completely flooded on Monday and Tuesday. So if these pictures could fast forward two days...I'd be in the middle of a river. Both of my roommates are headed back into the city today so we'll be able to see if we still have power. I'm going to attempt to find a way back as well.

I hope everyone else that has been affected are staying warm and safe! I'm just thankful that everyone I know is making it through this difficult time.

  8. Oh my! Jen, I'm so glad that you're okay and safe (and that you personally didn't suffer too too much damage in comparison to others... Those subway pictures made me squeamish!). Thinking of you!

  12. Glad to hear you are safe and still stylish. I was following the hurricane on twitter as the west coast of Canada was getting earthquake and tsunami warnings. Mother Nature went all out this weekend.

  16. Glad you're doing fine, Jen. My mom lives in NY too and we were all worried sick. All we can do from here is watch CNN. But good to know you're all safe now.

  17. I can't even imagine the damage that Hurricane Sandy has done, I hope that you're doing well. I love the outfit, especially the studded cardigan, as patent loafers, super chic and laid back at the same time :)

  19. I'm glad to hear you are ok! We lost power for a couple of days, but we didn't get any flooding like NYC or New Jersey got. I hope things get sorted out soon for you. It sucks not having power and having to deal with all of that. :\
