When I was younger, I used to do a snow dance the night before a predicted snowstorm so that school would be canceled. Yes, I'm talking about the one where you wear your pajamas inside out and dance around like an idiot. It seemed stupid even at a young age, but there was no way you were going to be the one who didn't dance and made everyone go to school. No fucking way.

Nowadays, my version of a snow dance is being cynical about the actual amount of predicted snowfall, as if to say to Mother Nature, "Do it, YOU WON'T." And boy, did she prove me wrong yesterday. We were .10 inches away from being the largest snowstorm in New York City's history, with a whopping total of 26.8 inches measured in Central Park. That's almost half my height, which is mind-boggling to me. I mean, the amount of snow in these pictures was from the pre-blizzard snowfall. THIS WASN'T EVEN THE START OF THE BLIZZARD.

But now that the snow has stopped falling, excuse me while I run outside and jump facedown in a massive snowbank. Hope everyone hit by the snowstorm is staying warm and safe.

  1. I need to show my sister this scarf because it looks a ton like a super old (vintage) one she fished out of my late grandfather's closet and has been wearing lately (and I told her I kinda wanted to give it a go, too. :p)

Hi snow. I so very very rarely see ya.

  2. Alright, I'm super jealous. City wide closures or not, I miss snowstorms from the East Coast all the time. They also add such a dreamy quality to the background of your photographs. Send some snow to California!

  4. Oh man, if I were still in school, I'd be hooting and hollering with joy, but I'm just dreading the aftermath when I have to drive on the icy, icy roads! You're a trooper for braving the cold in tights!

  10. Beautiful photos, snow tends to give them this very special feel, doesn't it? Oh, I've heard that there's been a ton of snow in many parts of America and 26.8 indeed seems like a lot! How fun of you to go out and dance to cancel school, haha, feels like something I could do right now, haha! xx
