Concrete Jungle
Every time I go to the city now I always hear Jay-Z and Alicia Keys singing Empire State of Mind, even though I've been there multiple times before.
I took a trip to the city about a week ago with one of my best friends, Jess, since she had to check out some Greek art at the MET. It was a chilly day out but the sun was shining down so it was a perfect day to run around Central Park taking pictures of anything and anyone. The sun shone a little too bright sometimes though and made picture taking a little difficult. Either my face was drowning in light or shrouded in shadows.
Besides the fantastic weather, there were also numerous amounts of sketchy men. Warning: do NOT wear tights with shorts to the city, you WILL get cat calls from men as you cross the street. The best story of the day though was when a young man driving a Bicycle Rickshaw came up to me and offered me a free ride. I declined and walked away (Jess practically ran away). However...he was quite the persistent guy and proceeded to ride his bike in front of us. He asked if he could talk to me for a second and asked me if I was Japanese or Korean (both of which I'm neither). Despite the creepiness he was quite the sweetheart and he told me I was beautiful. He then asked me for my number and I lied and told him I was taken. Despite my "unavailability", he still wanted me to take his number just in case I changed my mind. In the end I declined and left without him by my side. I'm pretty sure I just let the love of my life walk (or bike) right out of my life. I should have at least taken the free ride offer.

I can't wait to take more trips into the city once summer comes around and school lets out. If only it wasn't so expensive to take the train into the city. A $20 round trip isn't very attractive. Whatever happened to Free Transit Week? :(
I haven't had time this past weekend to make those changes to my blog. They might be postponed a week or so. Oh, if only school could be put on hold so I could do the things I love. Well, back to homework (what else is new?).

Oh, and a big thanks to The Owl's Closet for the Hottest Female Blogger Award! <3
p.s. This Saturday I'm participating in a March for Babies (for March of Dimes) and I'm trying to reach a fundraising goal of $100. If you're feeling generous feel free to donate in the sidebar! Every penny (or dime) counts! And on the topic of that, for the next three months, I'm stepping in as the Circle K International March of Dimes Ambassador! I'm way too excited and now I'm definitely going to have to work even harder on managing my time.
Aww it looks like you had SO much fun! You look super duper adorable, I can barely handle it :)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't gotten my hands on any patterned tights yet, getting super envious of all you bloggers! I guess it's pretty self explanatory since I've been locked inside my bedroom. Anyway enough about me, you look fantastic! <3
-xo Jess
P.S.- Your blouse is phantasmagorical!
Love the blouse. I've really been wanting a new pair of tights since it seems every single pair of mine have been destroyed sadly. Now I'm making sure my next purchase of them will be patterned like the ones you're wearing. :]
ReplyDeleteI would love to take a trip to Central Park! It looks so lovely. Too bad it's all the way across the country! Oh well, one of these days. :]
jen, this is like my dream outfit right now hahaha! love the shorts, the cute tights, and i've been eyeing that top from UO for so long! i think i'm wanting more simple patterns that aren't stripes so i've been lookin' at polka dots! ahh!
ReplyDeleteyou are gorgeous! i freaking wish NY was so close (and you of course!)
love love love youuuuu!
Ahh, I wish I could look as good as you in those shorts and heart tights! Love love love!
ReplyDeleteAnd such a sweet story about the bicycle rickshaw guy! Well, sweet bordering on creepiness haha:P It's like something that happens in the movies!
The pics are all so pretty:)
xx
I LOVE heart tights! god i can't say that enough!! you are so freaking cute!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great adventure. At least you are 20$ away from the city...imagine what would cost me to go there from where i live-Romania.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the outfit is so cute:)Love the tights, i need to find a pair for myself.
My life has also been busy ith homework, so i totally understand that you want summer to come quicker...
Have a lovely week!
Such a cool and pretty ensemble... I love the denim shorts over the tights look. Always fabulous and chic Jen! xoxo

You look cute!! I love these pictures.. Yeah, I once tried wearing shorts + tights and got similar reactions from guys.. But it didn't stop me from wearing 'em again :p

New York is so beautiful and these pictures are amazing! You look cute, and yes, I will follow your advice. No shorts + tights in the city, 'cause that's just for cool and brave asian girls like you, hahaha :) And don't get sad because of your "love" ride away... when it's meant to be, they always come back! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
<3
nice look and photos jen!
ReplyDeleteThose tights are just too cute! Sorry you had to deal with so much harassment from the men.
ReplyDeleteJen this is like the hottest that you have ever looked! I can marry you, you know, right now (even though I am sadly and happily wed to a handsome man) I don't blame the rickshaw guy at all. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely! I love your outfit jen, simple but trully cool :)) i love your short.
ReplyDeleteI desperately need to visit the MET. Unfortunately I don't really have anyone that would travel to NYC with me. ::Sigh:: If there's one thing I regret it's not going with my art history class in college one of the times they went.
ReplyDeleteSo this is how you pull of shorts and tights. I'm obsessed with this look.
unravelledthreads.blogspot.com
looks like you had a fun time in the city :)
ReplyDeleteyou did make me nervous with those pics of you on a rock by the water. i'm so clumsy that if that were me i would have totally fallen in...yuck!
Hahahaha, I love your little story there. I'll keep that in mind (about the shorts + stockings combo) when I'm heading down to the city in May :) But you look super cute in that outfit, so I don't blame that persistent guy for asking your number ;)

I love these photos! And your outfit, of course
ReplyDeleteohmygosh, I'm totally in love with the city! It look likes NY! haha.
ReplyDeleteI always like your outfits as you know.
xx
I've seen a couple bloggers do the shorts + tights look (can't say I've seen it in "real life" yet) but this is absolutely my favorite outfit I've seen yet with it! I was iffy on the idea before but you've sold me.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that guy was creepy though!
Thar polka dots shirt makes the outfit sweet and lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love it!!
Have to find out what is Circle K... going to check.
Love!
Mellon!
I love your pics & outfit! (-: and tights are cute!
ReplyDeleteLove all the buttons on the blouse! This outfit is cute! No wonder the boys wanted to give you rides. You did the right thing not to go along.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the ambassador thing! Now you're a role model. hehe
Haha, "do not wear tights with shorts in public"... you crack me up!!!! It must have been weird to get hit on by sketchy men in the daylight!! But I mean at least it was in the daylight... you look super cute though! And those tights are absolutely adorableeeeee. Loves,
ReplyDelete-S.

ReplyDeleteaw looks like such a beautiful day :) ny is so gorgeous. and hahah your story is so cute - at least it wasn't an old guy! what IF he was the love of your life?! bahaha, it would've been the best "how we met" story ever!

ReplyDeleteVery very cute; I really like the tights and short (and not in a creepy guy kind of way lol). Unfortunately, anytime girls wear dresses or shorts guys think they can catcall or just act like idiots :( Believe me I have been there!

ReplyDeleteso cute!
You look great and looks like you had a great time! I love your tights, I have a pair just like them. I hate when guys bother me when I'm wearing shorts. Short shorts should come back in style for guys too so we can follow them and make cat calls, lol.

Hmmm, love the tights idea... beautiful background...
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping in on my site and leaving a comment Jen, thanks also for the kind words, I know you will visit her site.

ReplyDeleteAHH love Central Park..it is so pretty as the backdrop to your pictures!
Jen, it looks like you had such a great time, despite all the creeps hollering at you. :) If I was a creep, I'd probaly holler too!! hee hee. You are such a cutie patootie. Your outfits just keep getting cuter and cuter... Oh how I wish i could pull of the whole denim shorts with tights look, but I can't... that's okay though :) Well, I hope you're having a fabulous week so far.. and I think that's awesome that you're participating in the March of Dimes walk. :) HUGS from Maui!
ReplyDeletexx Love & Aloha
p.s. You're so lucky that you can go into the city for $20... I'm sure that sounds like a ton for a student... but if I was living where you are, I'd probably go into the city every week.. well maybe every other week. :)
jenn, ur shorts is too cute..
ReplyDeletei wish i can wear that with those lovely tights..
may i know what is ur height (in cm)?
hahaha i completely understand about the cat-calls that inevitably come along with wearing shorts/tights... i think subconsciously after reading your post, i wore the same thing and the SAME rudeness happened to me :/ all in all, you look fantastic - i've been on the lookout for some "heart tights" but haven't found a pair just yet...
