SLIDER

JennifHsieh is a space for my rambling thoughts and snaps of my everyday style. I'm based in Astoria, Queens and I share a home with my two derpy cats and my equally derpy fiancé.

Same Dress, Different Everything Else

H&M Gray Open Cardigan (similar), Red Polka Dot Dress c/o SammyDress (similar)Urban Outfitters Gray Slouch Socks, Urban Outfitters Fleece-lined Tights

This dress always reminds me of when I first moved to NYC. At the time it was a new addition to my closet and I was in such a different place. I just started my first job out of college and I was living in East Harlem with two roommates, only one of which I knew prior to moving in. I spent so many nights at bars and I spent so many dinners eating ramen.

And now, over three years later, I find myself still wearing the same old dress; but when I look around me, everything is different. I moved on from my old job, which I fell head over heels in love with, and challenged myself with a new opportunity. Then I moved in with Jeremy and a stumpy old man of a cat and now reside in Astoria. I still spend many nights at bars, but now Netflix and cuddles seem to take priority. And I still spend a lot of dinners eating ramen, but my ramen game has stepped up it's game, yo. Like, hardcore...or as hardcore as ramen can get (which is pretty damn hardcore).

I feel like life just moves so fast sometimes that it's hard to take a moment to really take it all in. But then once in a while you revisit something that's been there for so many years, and it gives you that bit of perspective as to "the shit that thing has seen". And let me tell you, this dress has seen some shit.

Here's to dragging out this dress' lifespan for another three years!

  1. Such a wonderful perspective. Our material things become embued with our story and really are tangible evidence of lost moments.

  2. I love the contrast between this entry and that old one. (Also it makes me want to go through your archives, just to be that bit more of a creeper.)

  7. Hi Jen! Maybe this request isn't your blogging forte, but I was wondering if you could give us an apartment tour! And maybe your tips for a minimalist wardrobe / space. :D

    1. Absolutely! I actually just finished up hanging a shit ton of posters this past weekend so hopefully the apartment will be pretty ready for it's own photo shoot in the coming weeks. :)

Purging so many things I don't need and it feels AMAZING!
