A Train That's Bound for Santa Fe

Our second day in New Mexico greeted us with some rainfall and chilly winds. We decided to take a raincheck on a day of hiking due to the weather (and also because we were tired of driving after 8+ hours in the car the day prior). Instead, we made the quick drive into downtown Santa Fe and did some exploring like locals. 

Obviously, our first stop had to be brunch so we made our way to Tune-Up Cafe and drowned ourselves in classic brunch dishes with Mexican twists. I was won over before I even took a bite of my food, simply from the adorable floral tables and outdoor seating. I'm a sucker for aesthetics. Afterward we managed to ditch our rental car in a nearby parking lot and set sail for a day of exploring. 

We found ourselves in the heart of The Railyard, which was bustling with people shopping at the Saturday morning Farmer's Market, taking community classes, and browsing through local artisan booths. I cried every time I spotted any sort of hand-crafted home decor that would cost 10x the price in New York City. If only I could've bought it all and shipped it back home for free. I managed to convince Jeremy to invest in a hand-woven rug and then proceeded to make him take it on his earlier flight back home. Boy, I love that guy. 

One thing I absolutely adore about Santa Fe is their dedication to cultural conservation. Local architects worked together to help preserve the architectural history of the city, ensuring that every building fit into a defined Santa Fe style. Most of the homes you come across are low-slung, earth-colored buildings made of adobe bricks, which follows the pueblo-style. Let me tell you, I'm A-OK being surrounded by beautiful terracotta. No complaints here.
