Chilly Mornings + Weekend Getaways

WINTER IS COMING. Also, I'm guilty of using that reference multiple times on a weekly basis recently without having even seen a single episode of Game of Thrones. But it's on my list, I swear. So ultimately my usage of the phrase will be justified. But back to my original point, it's getting to the 40's (temperature-wise) and I'm definitely not ready for this jelly.

I'm currently hiding away in Gettysburg with two of my best friends all the way back from middle school and we're enjoying a much needed weekend away in the woods. We're all donning our plaid flannel, cooking meals together, and spiking every beverage we're consuming. Oh, and blasting the Spotify playlist called "Girls Run the World"? Yas.

Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm

My best friends from way back in the day (starting in middle school to be exact) make the trek this past weekend to visit Astoria and check out my new apartment. We made plans to head to an orchard even though both apple season (in September) and pumpkin season (in October) were over. Then again, it's never too late to just enjoy the parkways lined with burning foliage in upstate New York. I swear, New York as a whole (not just New York City) is so underrated. Breathtaking, really.

Even though we didn't leave with any hand-picked apples or pumpkins (my homemade apple pie will have to wait), we left with apple cider doughnuts and hot apple cider, which is just as satisfying...if not more. Noms.

On another note, these tights are my new favorites lately. Ever since I got over my obsession with colored tights during my college years, I've been sticking to black tights. So, if there's ever any opportunity to spice them up with little details or patterns, I'll grab 'em. The back seam on these tights is so subtle and also adds just the right amount of sexy. Yeah, that's right. Sexy.

When Autumn Leaves Start to Fall

Now that we're pretty well into November I feel fall slowly creeping away so now it's time to step up my fall game. Fall foliage in my pictures? Check. Baked a pumpkin pie? Check. Plans to go apple picking this weekend? Oh, you bet that's a check. Now let's see if I can successfully bake my very first apple pie afterward. Challenge accepted.

Actually I guess you only say "challenge accepted" when someone else challenges you.

Eh, whatever.

Dream Your Life Away

Sometimes it's nice to dress up a bit and play the role of the romantic. Other times it's nice just to bum around in sweaters and pajama pants. Luckily for the rest of the world, my urge to be a romantic yesterday was greater than the voice of my inner bum.

Also, I finally took the plunge and signed up for a gym membership. I checked out the ones closest to my apartment (1-2 blocks away) and they were either sketchy, smelly, or sad. I judge their sadness based off the amount of music playing and TV's blasting, obviously. The one Jeremy goes to is further away, around 10 blocks, but it's incredible and way cheaper. Guess I can...GO THE DISTANCE for quality and price. Har har.

All I Wanna Do Is Free Fall

So I think I've finally reached that point in my life where I need to sign up for a gym membership. It's a frightening place to be for someone as lazy as me, but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Working out on occasion in my own apartment is just getting harder and harder with Netflix and my fridge staring me in the face. When I was younger, I was one of those kids who could eat as much as she could humanly contain and all of it would magically disappear by the time she woke up. Now? Not so much. Getting older really does come with a shit ton of side effects. Not to mention working in the photo studio at work means you end up with a lot of extra food props staring you in the face. I will not be ashamed to admit I ate buffalo wings at 9:30 AM yesterday morning because they were left over from a shoot.

It's time to grab my flab by the horns and take control, amirite?

Now the struggle to find a gym that's (1) close to my apartment, (2) cheap, and (3) clean. The struggle begins.

Lazy Sundays + Homecooking

My favorite days are the lazy ones I spend with Jeremy just catching up on chores around the neighborhood and doing lots of home cooking. Living with Jeremy gives me more of an excuse to cook, since cooking for two is easier than one, and I'm loving every minute of it. I remember when I was younger I used to ask my mom how she learned to cook and she mentioned that she just learned it over time. I didn't quite get it since her meals were always magically delicious (more so than Lucky Charms) and I couldn't imagine ever learning how to cook like her. That kind of magic must require lessons. But just three months in this apartment and I can see my cooking skills getting better and better. This tiny kitchen has got a lot in store over the next nine months.
