Ever since Jeremy and I started our travel blog, &Away We Went, we've been excitedly planning trips one after the other. It's gotten so bad to the point where we've almost entirely booked up our weekends until June. And although planning so far in advance gets us cheaper tickets and better Airbnb selections, it's definitely taken a hit on our bank accounts all at once, which we're slowly feeling this month. So, we're on a tight budget when we're not traveling and to keep us in the wanderlust mindset, we're focusing on exploring our own neighborhood.
While we've already been exploring our neighborhood of Astoria these past two and a half years, adding the goal of documenting our local adventures on our joint blog is letting us see everything through new eyes. There's more of an effort to not frequent the same places too often, to reach all corners of Astoria, to better understand the owners behind storefronts and the chefs in the kitchen.
We took these pictures two weekends ago with our friend Dennis along the waterfront, running through the playgrounds of Rainey Park and taking in the sun-drenched Manhattan skyline from the Hallets Cove Playground. Who says you can't spend time outdoors in the dead of winter?
