Falling in Love with Lisbon

As I took my first step out of the subway station and into the center of Lisbon, I immediately let out a little gasp of awe as I took in the miles and miles of tiling; geometric-patterned tiles along the subway exit, elaborately-painted tiles covering the buildings, and mosaic-inspired stone tiles forming the streets. Tiles on tiles on tiles and by the end of our time in Lisbon, I still couldn't get enough.

By the time these photos were taken, our third day in Lisbon, you could find me strutting up and down those tiled hills like I owned the place. However, you would think someone with that kind of confidence would remember that most vendors were closed on Sundays...leaving me and Jeremy with half of our wish list unchecked by the end of the day. Either way, we made the most of it by wandering in the Bairro Alto and Chiado neighborhoods and grabbing a bus to watch the sunset at the Torre de Belém.

Jeremy and I will be documenting more of our Lisbon adventures (included the ones listed above) soon enough on our travel blog, & Away We Went, including our favorite places to grab pastel de nata. We've already blogged about getting lost in the Alfama neighborhood, our second Lisbon Airbnb, my favorite brunch at Nicolau Lisbon, and a waterfront meal at Ponto Final. Keep an eye on the space (or follow us on Instagram)!

  1. I was so surprised by how much I loved Lisbon, but it's really gorgeous and scenic and so special! Love these shots of you, and those shoes! Though if you went in... December, was it? My toes would have fallen off for sure, lol. It was already coldish at the beginning of November (with occasional doses of sunshine) so I can't imagine December was warmer.
