JennifHsieh is a space for my rambling thoughts and snaps of my everyday style. I'm based in Astoria, Queens and I share a home with my two derpy cats and my equally derpy fiancé.

One Year Ago

Since I'm away in St. Louis, Missouri, I decided to share with you guys what I was wearing exactly a year ago!  So I actually started blogging a little over a year ago. I didn't start JennifHsieh until the beginning of December and before that I shared a blog, Second Skins, with my best friend, Phebe. She got a little bit too busy to blog...so I started up JennifHsieh! And speaking of my blog name, just to clear things up, my name is Jennifer  - I just took out the "er". Hsieh is my last name and it's pronounced like "Shed" but without the "d". I'll make a video sometime and say it for you guys, yeah? :)

Oh, and excuse the angle at which I am standing. I understand I shouldn't have bent over and revealed all my goodies but trust me, there isn't anything there anyway. :) Miss you guys tons! Just a few more days and I'll be back. <3

Dynamic Duo: A Recap

Dynamic Duo: A Recap

Hi everyone!
I'm Jasmine from Transient Withdrawal--aka Jen's long lost sister/half of the Dynamic Duo/the person running JennifHsieh this past week while she's away in St. Louis. Jen asked me to guest blog here and to watch over things just in case she didn't have internet there (but she does!). Everything has been running pretty smoothly here, but I can't wait for her to come back in a few days.

As you may know, Jen is in the middle of a 15 for 15 challenge. Well today will be the last day of my 21 for 21 challenge. Because we both adore this top so much and because I'm sure Jen would've been down for another Dynamic Duo with this shirt, I decided to style it again for my 19th look and for my guest post here. So now you have five different ways to style this one top!

Since Jen and I started back in February, Dynamic Duo has been the most incredible journey that used to be between two strangers, and that is now between two good friends. The whole purpose of Dynamic Duo--collaboration--is my favorite part of blogging. I have come to know some pretty amazing people in the blogosphere; and Jen is one of the sweetest, funniest, and best people I have yet to meet, but already feel like I know. I really hope we meet in September if I get another chance to go to New York;, but if we don't, I know we'll still keep in touch with our almost daily emails about our lives.

I think as bloggers, amidst all the shiny new clothes and the constantly growing list of things we supposedly "need," we sometimes lose sight of why we blog. We get so caught up in competing with each other in getting more followers, more ads, and newer and better clothes that we forget just how hard it is to find people with similar interests like fashion. I am guilty of this, but Dynamic Duo and my 21 for 21 challenge have really reminded me why I started my blog--which was to channel my creativity with clothes, and to meet people who also love fashion. I really encourage every blogger to do a collaboration with a fellow blogger and an X for X challenge during their blogging life.

Looking back to our first looks (the f21 white bow), it's clear just how much we've grown as fashion bloggers, and I know Jen is learning as much as I did through our challenges about the power of remixing (and accessorizing). So look forward to more Dynamic Duo posts! We actually still have one item that we've been holding on for months now. We even have the photo idea and locations all picked out. We'll probably get to it once Jen is all done with her challenge, and then soon after we'll be hunting for another item. I wouldn't be surprised if we become Dynamic Duo grandmas knitting each other circle scarves and Christmas sweaters.

I think our sailor top is my favorite Dynamic Duo item so far, what's yours?

Love,
Jasmine / Transient Withdrawal

Guest Post: Moral of the Story

save4

Hi guys! I'm Debbie from all that lace and I'm so honored to be able to guest blog for Jen while she jets off to St. Louis! Since Jen is in the middle of her 15 for 15 challenge, I thought I'd try a bit of "Jen-channeling" as it were for my guest post. She's a girl after my heart after all, with her casual looks thrown in with pops of color. So then I decided to just try stripes and floral together since I hadn't done it before, but my Tucson mountains were all cloudy and melancholy so it clashed a bit with my outfit. C'est la vie, right? I was still happy regardless (see below).

I would do a 15 for 15 challenge myself if I weren't completely weak where shopping is concerned. I know you were thinking I meant I was physically weak, but let's be honest. I have man strength. And my bulging biceps really show whilst I'm carrying 50 items at a time to a fitting room. What can I say, Forever 21 does not sell ugly clothes. ;)

So while Jen is learning valuable lessons in wearing the clothes you've already got, I'm learning the value in spending almost too much money on clothes. You could say her morals are rather better than mine, and that's probably true.

Haha, seriously I'm so glad she let me step in. I'm sure we all equally can't wait for her to get back! Cheers!

Guest Post: Theresa!

Hello there, this is Theresa from Despising Life is so Passé, covering for the ever-so-lovely Jen for the day while she is away! Since it is her blog, I decided to incorporate some elements that Jen often uses in her wonderful outfits, which would be high waisted shorts and a pair of wedges. That is, of course, with my own little retro twist.

And by the way, if it is even possible by any means!, please excuse my horrible tan. I still haven't had the chance to hit the beach and even it out. What kind of California girl am I for this nonsense?

But any who, I just can't help but be envious of Jen's paper bag shorts from H&M, and I'm sure I'm not the only one! Since I don't own such wonderful shorts though, I opted for my favorite H&M shorts that I actually do own. The look was a bit too much on the neutral side for me at first, so I topped it off with this gorgeous blue scarf that I picked up not too long ago, for just the right pop of color. I just can't seem to be able to stay away from bows these days!

(lace top & belt- american apparel, shorts- H&M, wedge sandals- urban outfitters, scarf- vintage)

Well that's it for me, sweets. Have a wonderful day! ♥

Guest Post: Lt. Dan Weekend

Hi, Taylor here, from Auburn Not Red. I'm filling in for the adorable Jen while she's away having fun without us. At least I think she's having fun. I really don't know what this mysterious trip of hers is all about.
She gave me permission to solicit donations, well maybe not exactly, but she is allowing me to say a few words about the Independence Fund, who I've been a volunteer with for the past several months and will continue to do so at least until the Lt. Dan Weekend, which begins in very late September.
(As you may know, Jen, herself, is an avid volunteer and spokesperson for the March of Dimes in her area and has been very supportive of my cause, as well. Thank you, Jen!)

Rather than go way into what it is all about and losing you quickly, the Independence Fund helps severely disabled "war on terror" veterans by purchasing and donating $25,000 special wheelchairs and writing grants that cover uncovered medical bills.
The Lt. Dan Weekend (in conjunction with the Beaufort Shrimp Festival - check out their crazy logo!) will bring in 75+ veterans and their caregivers (covering travel, lodging and meals) for a 3-day weekend that includes seminars, an activity day, a free concert put on by the Lt. Dan Band featuring Gary Sinise and a 5K walk/run and 11, 22 or 33-mile bike ride that the veterans will be participating in.

The Independence Fund is reaching a goal of $60,000 to fund this event but still needs to raise $15,000 more before the event beginning Sept. 29.

Please stop by my blog if you can help donate to this cause.
If you're in the area, please join us for the weekend. You'll get to see Gary perform and help out a bunch of soldiers in the process.

*swoon, right?!*

Be sure to also stop by my blog to say "hi" or enter any of my giveaways that I have going on.
(two new one's for the month of August!)
Thanks for your time and I can't wait to see the photos of Jen's trip!

And, here, I'll leave you with an impromptu photo shoot of my newest purchase to keep with the fashion blogginess (yeah, that's a word) of this post:

dress via urbanog.com

bye, bye and hurry up, Jen! I can't keep these people entertained on my own!
