My Head is a Jungle

Urban Outfitters Long White Cardigan (similar), ASOS Striped Crop Top (similar), Zara Rust Scalloped Skirt (similar), House of Harlow 1960 Arabella Boots c/o LuLu*s (similar)

♫ Now Playing: Jungle - Emma Louise

And once again, I'm pulling out classic pieces in my closet that have lasted me years and there's no better feeling. Meanwhile, everyone reading this is thinking, "What do you mean 'once again'?", as if I expect you guys to be keeping track of every time I'm doing so.

But anyway, back to my original point. Once I put on this top and skirt combination, my bank account and closet simultaneously started chanting my name and giving me high fives for investing in such timeless pieces (although neither qualify financially as investment pieces since I'm a quite the thrifty shopper - sup, sale sections). I've had this top since at least 2012 (worn here) and this skirt since at least 2011 (worn here) and I don't see them going away any time soon. All it takes is some extra love to keep those pieces lasting year after year and not losing shape.

Sadly, I wish I could say the same for that banana print dress hanging up in my closet because, as epic as I currently think it is, I don't see myself wearing that bad boy to any parent-teacher conferences in ten years.

This World is Not Prepared For Some

Another monochromatic look coming your way. Again, that's all I can seem to gravitate to during these early mornings even though I'm obsessed with those beautiful, muted fall colors that everyone else is also raving about. But my headphones came to the rescue with some bold hues; does that count? Can headphones be considered accessories to your outfit? Absofuckinglutely. I mean, does no one remember Jay McCarroll's winning collection on Project Runway's Season 1 finale?! I'm pretty much a shoo in for his line-up of models with this look. Most definitely.

Here's Change You Can Keep

I'm currently crammed inside the lobby of the Ace Hotel, sitting in the atmospheric darkness, and updating this thing I call a blog. There's something quite nice about working in a completely different environment and I feel like I don't take advantage of that enough, especially living in a city with so many hidden spaces. The lazy part of me (which is a really stubborn part of me) always loves the comfort of my own home where working means working in my underwear. But sometimes home also means getting stuck in a creative rut...in my underwear. And that's really not a good time.

So here's to making more of an effort to give my laptop some legs and take my work to new spaces.

Also, can we talk about the fact that fall decided to be both the "ideal hat wearing season" and the "windiest season"? Fall, you're such a tease, you.

Uniform in Gray and Black

Gap Gray Side-Snap Sweater (similar), H&M Gray Knit Skirt (similar), ASOS Black Thigh-High Socks, Black Combat Boots c/o LuLu*s (similar), Urban Outfitters Black Textured Mini-Backpack (similar), Beyond the Stars Ring c/o Kitsch, Vintage Ring from Jeremy

Some days I have mornings where I can't even bother with the hassle of color in my outfit. This is where the beauty of monochromatic outfits comes in; you can grab as many neutral items as you want and some how they'll make sense together (for the most part). You want to wear head-to-toe black and gray? Girl, you posh. You want to wear head-to-toe red and yellow? Girl, you might want to turn around and reconsider.

Just kidding. I mean, I have nothing against red and yellow together. I've done it before...twice...possibly even more than that...and not even very well if you can tell. So maybe it's just a personal flaw, not being able to style those bolder and brighter colors together in a way that's appealing to the eye. Not like it should matter though; Girl, you do you.

Basically, I'm not really trying to say anything of importance. The only thing to take away from this, is that my closet has a very sassy attitude towards me and calls me "Girl" quite often.

Joaquin's Brief Visit to NYC

Obey Navy Sweatshirt (similar, similar), White Drop Waist Dress c/o LuLu*s (similar, similar), Urban Outfitters Black Textured Mini-Backpack (similar), Black Combat Boots c/o LuLu*s (similar)

These past few days, with Hurricane Joaquin breezing on by the east coast, it's felt like we dove deep into winter without giving fall a chance. Mother Nature was all like, "Pumpkin spice? I don't think so, basics, HERE'S SOME COLD ASS CHILLY RAIN WHOOOOSH!" and then everyone had to whip out their winter coats and bury themselves in layers. But then as soon as it came, it went, and Mother Nature was like, "Yo, that was exhausting, let's just watch Netflix and chill."

I'm not sure why Mother Nature is such a thug in my mind but it's not hard to believe with the way she brings all that weather realness on a daily basis.

Rompin' Around + Tequila Evenings

H&M Red Romper (similar, similar), Joe Fresh Faux Leather Moto Jacket (similar), Black Combat Boots c/o LuLu*s (similar)

Sometimes you just need to drown yourself in tequila on a weekday night.

And then sometimes you really don't but you do anyway because it's free, which is exactly what happened to me and Jeremy this past Monday. Santera Tequila officially launched earlier this week and, if you don't know me, I love myself some tequila. It's been my best friend and my worst enemy for the past few years, usually at exactly the same time. Santera definitely didn't disappoint with some beautifully mixed margaritas and delicious appetizers being served around the room. At one point, one of the servers appeared next to me and went, "Now I know you want one of these." Part of me felt judged, but the larger (more important) part of me realized that she was probably one of my true, great loves and that I should just take two mini-tacos for myself. So thank you, Santera, for a great experience with your tequila. I thank you from the bottom of my stomach.
