Summer Time Feels

It finally hit the 70's this weekend and boy, oh boy, did it feel like summer was right around the corner. Sure, the sun played a big part in it all, but it was mostly my sweat acting as the main indicator. I pulled out my shorts that were hiding in the closet space just slightly out of my reach without a step stool and rocked out with my bare legs out. It was such a glorious feeling I can't even hide it.

In lieu of the warmer weather, I took advantage of taking a few more adventures outside of Astoria this weekend. It's hard to motivate yourself to leave since Astoria already has everything you could possibly be looking for, but sometimes it's just nice having a change of scenery. Yesterday was spent gallavanting around the lower east side and gorging myself in incredible Japanese food (gimme more soba noodles) and today was spent sobbing uncontrollably to Furious 7 and exploring Jackson Heights (which I'll talk about in my next blog post). I couldn't be more content right now.

Cozy, Rustic, and Badass

I'm pretty convinced that you can never have too many plaid, flannel shirts. It's one thing that I've never gotten sick of in my closet over the past decade and I don't foresee myself getting sick of them any time soon. Whether it's a different fabric thickness or a different color scheme, you can always change things up and feel like a cozy, rustic, badass motherfucker. Not literally, obviously, but you know. Unless you actually are, literally, that...but that's a road we're not going to go down.

Now I'm going to go enjoy the rest of my night (and continue my attempts at trying to convince Bubba to cuddle with me) before I work a 14-hour day tomorrow.

Sundays with Firmoo

I've had increasingly bad vision ever since the third grade. I remember getting my first pair of glasses and, like the typical 8-year-old at that time, feeling like the biggest nerd at school. I would hide them in my desk and pretend like I "accidentally" misplaced them, just so I wouldn't have to put them on my face.

Then the day came for contacts, while I was in middle school, and I never looked back since. I definitely felt #blessed, although I didn't know it at the time due to the lack of the hashtag's existence. But as my parents like to remind me, you can't wear your contacts 24/7 and it's good to give your eyes a little break from time to time. But luckily, glasses are more of a fashion statement these days so I make the most of it by trying out new pairs whenever I can. So even if I have to nudge my glasses up my nose a few times a day and struggle to keep the smudges off, at least I'm looking Instagramable. Na'mean?

Recipe | Cream Cheese + Egg Croissant Squares

Yet another recipe that indulges my passionate love for croissants. This time, instead of going the sweet route, I decided to try a more savory breakfast recipe that didn't use the classic croissant shape. Jeremy was a huge fan of these and, let's be honest, the presentation all in itself is delicious enough to look at.

Cream Cheese + Egg Croissant Squares
Servings: 2

Ingredients
1 Tube Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent rolls
1 Fresh Vine Tomato
2 Large Eggs
Handful of Chopped Broccoli
1/2 Stick of Cream Cheese
Scallions
Salt and Pepper

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400°F. In the meantime, grab a tray and cover it with a sheet of parchment paper.

Open the package of crescent rolls onto the parchment paper and divide it half into two large squares. There's a few perforations in the dough so just patch those up by squeezing the dough back together with your fingers.

Next, fold over each of the edges about 1/2 an inch to create a "crust" to keep all of the ingredients together while everything is baking. Now, this is where you can go a little crazy with the ingredients. This time, I decided to spread a thin layer of cream cheese as a base.

On top of the cream cheese, I cracked a large egg on each of the squares, added a tomato slice and some broccoli, and topped with a generous drizzle of sliced scallions, salt, and pepper. Depending on your taste, feel free to add some bacon slices.

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes (or until the crust is golden brown to your liking). I left it in for 15 minutes so the eggs were cooked a bit more since I'm not the biggest fan of runny eggs.

The Bubba Obsession Continues

I have a serious problem. When Bubba's around, I can't do anything but stare at him and follow him around the apartment, trying to offer him catnip. Or I'm trying to snap a photo of him so I can make him Instagram famous (follow him here - that's a order). Now I totally understand why new parents sometimes seem like they're hiding from the world; they're just obsessed with their new baby and how gosh darn cute they are. Well...or busy taking care of a newborn. Both make sense.

So please excuse me if I'm too busy trying to teach Bubba to snuggle with me instead of blogging.

Also, if you see some gray bandaging coming out of my left sleeve, don't worry, I'm not severely injured. I just got some new ink (seen here) and it's still in the healing process. Now the struggle is remembering not to itch it.

11:00 AM Hello, new ink. S/O to Three Kings Tattoo for the quick and easy session. The leaves each represent a different state that I was raised in; I moved around a lot until I was 7 years old and each environment shaped me in their own unique way.

12:00 PM Finally got some Greenpoint Lobster in my stomach. Let's talk about that market fish sandwich for a second; I couldn't get enough of it. If you're ever in Greenpoint, you can't pass it by. Even if you've already had brunch, make room for a second brunch.
