A Star Wars Mindset

Forever 21 Grey Wool Longline Coat, Urban Outfitters Oversized Knit Cardigan (similar), White Striped Dress c/o LuLu*s (similar), Volcom Olive Green Hat c/o LuLu*s (similar), Black Ring (similar), Beyond the Stars Ring c/o Kitsch, House of Harlow 1960 Arabella Boots c/o LuLu*s (similar), Colorblock Suede Bag c/o Chicnova (similar)

I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens this past weekend and my brain is still melting from the sheer awesomeness of everything. But it's also causing me to click on every single article analyzing the seventh episode and digging into every single detail, including details not even in the film. I'm drowning in this pit of Star Wars quicksand and I can't get out. But I also love it and thrive off of it, haha.

But enough of this nerding out (and I don't want to get into any spoilers); I'm going to go distract myself with Christmas Eve cookies and other assorted noms. Happy Holiday, everyone!

Holiday Aches and Pains

I love buying gifts for other people as much as I love wrapping those gifts and taking the time to craft up some homemade cards. Like, LOVE. But the little, itty bitty grinch inside of me really, really doesn't like the stress of the searching process to find the perfect gift, especially when the deadline gets closer, and closer, and closer, and you start to lose your mind as well as hope. This year, the majority of the gifts I'm buying are for members of Jeremy's family and, since Jeremy is more of a gift card kind of guy, I'm leading the charge on present selection. What does this mean? THE PRESSURE IS ON.

The list of family members we have to shop for range from a newborn (coming soon), to a teenage girl (I don't know what they even like these days - does it mean I'm now uncool), to parents who usually seem to have everything they already need. We're really covering all aspects of the family spectrum here. Some of them I crossed off the list instantly, but others are almost impossible to shop for unless you settle for the same "tried-and-true"gift that they always get, year after year. And I refuse to succumb to the "tried-and-true" method. Absolutely not.

So I will continue to suffer through those holiday aches and pains (mostly mental, but also physical and financial) and just wait for that oh-so-satisfying moment where they open up their gifts. Power on, fellow gift givers.

Giant Peace Signs in Smallwood

Forever 21 Gray Wool Longline Coat (similar), H&M White Flannel Shirt (similar), Levi's Black Fleece-lined Leggings (similar), Unisa Teylor Riding Boots (similar), Urban Outfitters Brown Clutch Wallet (similar)

A couple of times a year, my high school friends and I plan a mini-weekend getaway to catch up and get away from everyday life for a bit. We've tackled the scummy clubs of Seaside Heights, the historical sights of Gettysburg, and the basic act of being fall as fuck. This time around, we decided to hide out in suburban New York for a winter retreat full of flannel, hot tubs, cooking, and baking with an overall theme of being warm. Because that can be a theme if we want it to be.

While driving around the quiet and quaint town of Smallwood, we passed by this giant peace sign, held together by duct tape, and I knew we had to stop by due to our curiosity. Turns out it's advertising a website and I still haven't taken the time to see what it's all about; who knows if it's just a scam to get innocent people driving by to download a virus. That would be pretty epic. Epic-ly rude, but also epic.

Blanket Scarf Burritos

Olive Trench Coat c/o DressLink, Gray Blanket Scarf c/o DressLink, Madewell Chambray Boyfriend Shirt (similar), Gap Faded Denim (similar), Converse Chuck Taylor White All-Star Sneakers, Urban Outfitters Mauve Fringe Suede Crossbody (similar, similar)

Lately, I've been all about those blanket scarves mainly because they're just that: blankets. I could wrap my whole body in it from head-to-toe if I really wanted to, but then I wouldn't be able to see where I was going and everyone on the subway would mistake me for a plaid burrito and I ain't about to get eaten. This blanket scarf in particular was under $5 and it's beyond soft to the touch (I feel like I'm writing about Charmin toilet paper). Now I can't wait to wear it with my gray wool coat because I have a feeling they're going to be best friends this season; I just had to give it a break from the two million consecutive blog posts it's been in lately.

But in other exciting news, it's officially the holiday season because I've accumulated a baby Christmas tree and it's got some fly ornaments hanging off of it. Cheers to my Jewish boyfriend for indulging me.

Shaking Off Nightmares

Forever 21 Gray Wool Longline Coat, H&M Black Long-sleeve Turtleneck, Sweet Daydreamer Dress c/o For Elyse (similar), H&M Black Thigh-High Socks, Aldo Black Suede Oxford Wedges (similar), Urban Outfitters Black Textured Mini-Backpack (similar)

This coat has outstayed its welcome on this blog, but I'm a little bit okay with that. A lot okay with that. So if you're looking for a million and one ways to outwear a coat, this blog is for you. I always aim to switch things up in coat land, but then my hands always wander over to this gray beauty and the cycle starts all over again.

Speaking of wandering, my brain has similar tendencies to my hands. Despite the many, many combinations of dreams it can think up, my brain seems to always wander right back to the same nightmares. These nightmares reoccur so often that when they begin, I get a feeling of dread that comes from knowing the horrible ending of a movie before it even starts and just having to live it all over again. They always sink so deep into my mind that the feeling lingers well into the early afternoon; even now, as I write, I can't seem to shake it off.

I blame this 100% on seeing Krampus yesterday (which, by the way, was hilariously awesome, so go see it).

Back to Black

Forever 21 Gray Wool Longline Coat (similar)H&M Black Crop Top (similar), Urban Outfitters Black Knit Cardigan (similar)Love Culture Striped Pencil Skirt (similar), H&M Black Thigh-High Socks (similar), Black Suede Flats c/o LuLu*s (similar), Olive Felt Hat c/o LuLu*s (similar), Urban Outfitters Black Textured Mini-Backpack (similar)

Lately I've been gravitating towards wearing all black; all day, every day. I mean, I'm currently sitting at my computer, typing out this blog post, wearing head-to-toe black. I think I've been influenced by my co-workers; I work with a lot of designers and, true to the stereotype, they only wear black. It's was a bit mind boggling to me but, soon enough, I found myself doing the exact same thing and now I'm in this crisis mode, thinking to myself, "AM I JUST A FOLLOWER?" But fuck it, wearing all black makes it so insanely easy to get dressed because EVERYTHING matches. So until I run out of all-black outfits to post on this blog, black it shall be.
