Love is a Doing Word

Crop Top c/o Chicnova
American Apparel Pink Shorts (similar)
Urban Outfitters Belt
Shoemint Sandals (similar)

These pictures were taken from this past weekend at Cape May the morning after all the let's-pretend-like-we're-back-in-college festivities. I brought along these shorts mainly because I was so excited I could finally fit in them again. I bought them about a year ago, but after living on my own (for real) in New York City and eating so unhealthily, they were impossible to button. Lately I've been working really hard to eat better and stop being so stingy with my money (Who expects a 20-something year old to be saving money while living in the city?) and fitting back into these bad boys made it all worth it. Granted they're still a little snug, but I'll just pretend they're hugging me because they love me back.

Well, that was a weird blog post. It probably means I need to get out of my apartment. What are you guys doing over the long weekend?

I feel like I will never get sick of polka dots. There's something magical about them and I can't figure it out. They're entrancing. They're exhilarating. They're captivating. They're just so damn awesome. Who's with me?

Honestly, that's all I have to say today.

Little Miss Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine Tee c/o Junk Food Clothing
Express Destroyed Cutoffs (similar)
Victoria's Secret Peach Bikini Top (similar)

I spent this past weekend in Cape May with a handful of friends from college and I'm now suffering from the aftermath of it all. To sum it up there was plenty of sun bathing, boozing, eating, and swimming. What there wasn't plenty of was sleeping. Sacrifices have to be made, right?

With the amazing weather, I thought it was the perfect time to rock this Little Miss Sunshine Tee, which reminds me of all those t-shirts I used to fold when I worked at Delia*s back in high school. I decided to keep my entire look casual because really, who wants to dress up to go to the beach? My only regret was not wearing a longer skirt because those sand bugs sure know how to bite.

Now excuse me while I spend the rest of my night resisting the urge to itch my shoulders and legs.

The weekend could not be here soon enough. I'm spending the next two days down in Cape May at my friend's beach house and I couldn't be more excited to just lie around in the sun and do absolutely nothing. Oh wait, just kidding, I have to work for an hour on Saturday. But besides that, I'll be slowly sinking into the sand and floating along the waves. Vacation, much needed.

What plans do you guys have for the weekend?

A Crook For Stealing Your Heart

American Apparel Black Crop Top

Forever 21 Necklace as Bracelet

This past weekend, Jeremy and I decided to go on an adorable date (Actually, let's be real. All of our dates are adorable.) to Peanut Butter & Co for lunch. My roommate went with his girlfriend earlier in the year since he's an avid peanut butter lover and I was intrigued by a restaurant solely dedicated to peanut butter. We were served sandwiches that I don't think were even on the menu - peanut butter, dark chocolate peanut butter, walnuts, and shredded coconut between two toasted slices of white bread. I'm drooling already thinking about it.

We ended up taking home two jars of peanut butter as well - spicy peanut butter for Jeremy and cinnamon raisin peanut butter for myself. Mmmmmm.....

Oh, and check out dem overalls. Flashback to second grade when I owned a pair of dark purple, velvet overalls. Coolest kid in the entire school, let me tell you.

Rebecca Minkoff & Bryanboy Interview

Last Wednesday, I had a chance to stop by the Rebecca Minkoff meet-and-greet at Neiman Marcus in Short Hills, NJ. She's touring a couple of cities with Bryanboy to debut her new Elle bag and, lucky for me, one was only a short train ride away. The thing that really stuck out to me about this particular bag, is how Rebecca collaborated with Bryanboy on the name, ultimately naming it after his grandmother, Eleonora. She had a passion for sewing well into old age and Rebecca loved the idea of having such a strong woman behind the bag. I can definitely get on board with strong women.

I had a minute or two to chat it up with both Rebecca and Bryanboy and asked them a few questions before they had to leave the event.

JH Rebecca, I know you love working with bloggers a lot. What makes you work with them time and time again?

RM I think that, what I love, is that this is how my customer is receiving their information and what she aspires to when it comes to fashion and style. So I want to work with fashion bloggers because that's who is speaking to them best.

JH I know you're really active on Instagram - is there one social platform that you see that's really changing the industry?

RM Instagram, for me at least.
BB Blogs for me. It's funny because I have more followers on Twitter than Instagram, because I'm a late adopter. I only joined last year and I wish I joined Instagram early on.

JH Do you guys have a favorite hashtag?

BB I try not to hashtag.
RM No, my hashtags are always ironic. I never try to have a hashtag that means anything, it's just my quotes.
BB I never use hashtags, so.

JH Rebecca, you had a background in costume design early on. If you could design costumes for any TV show that's on right now, what would it be?

RM Mad Men would be exciting because it's not really hard to design costumes for anything that's current. You know? It's fun to go into the past.

Studio 12.20's Army Essentials

Enlist in Fall 2013's hottest trend: camouflage. Adapted and re-created over the years by fashion designers, camouflage has a lengthy history and a strong place in the style world. The print was re-invented by Andy Warhol in the 1980's and through his art many fashion designers began to re-create camo from Army-related to fashion trendsetting wear. Fashion often calls upon this unique pattern and neutral color palate as inspiration, and this season it is back in full force.

Get your fatigues on.  If you love this trend, then the camo jacket is a fall essential. This "borrowed from the boys" look is extremely wearable, and adds an edgy feel to any outfit. Camo's neutral tones are an ideal palette to mix with colors like coral or cream. This look is a Studio 1220 favorite.

The Camo Sweater
Don't love the structured and literal look of the camo jacket? Then try the camo print in a slouchy sweater version. Mix it with your favorite white tee, black skinnies, and moto boots and you're guaranteed NOT to blend into the background.

Kill two trends with one stone in a cozy and cool pullover sweatshirt.  The combination of the camouflage print and leather-like detailed shoulders makes this piece truly fresh and unique.

Think camo is just for the casual? Think again! Look pretty tough in an army inspired blazer. It's perfect for a night out on the town or styled up for the office.  You can be on trend, but still look classic and put together.

If you feel like toning down the camo print a bit, try sporting solids in olive or army green. The color looks picture perfect on every skin tone and it's super easy to mix and match. Wear it with neutrals or pair it with a bright color to make a statement. This hue will work in any form this season, whether it be with skinny jeans, jackets, tops, or sweaters.

Lime with a Hint of Mint

Forever 21 Denim Jacket
Lime Maxi Dress c/o Lulu's
Shoemint Satchel
Mint Statement Necklace c/o Lulu's (similar)

Yesterday evening, I left work early and jumped on a train to Short Hills, New Jersey. Neiman Marcus, located at the Short Mills mall, was hosting a two hour meet-and-greet that evening with Rebecca Minkoff and Bryan Boy and they invited me to do some coverage and light interviewing. I'll talk about it more in my next blog post but, until then, here's what I ended up wearing.

And I'm not sure if it's just me, but does anyone else feel weird if they wear heels to the mall? Bougie, much?
